He doesn’t answer right away. Instead, looking over my head—I’m guessing at Eleanor behind me. “Not yet. But I will be. Sam will be too.” He moves on to Cooper, who’s behind me in line, and I move on to hug Nonna.

She doesn’t let go of me right away. “Are you coming back to the house after the service today, principessa?”

“I’m not sure, Nonna. Sam has a lot on his plate. And I don’t want to complicate things.”

“Don’t let him push you away. He needs you more now than ever before, and he is a man who doesn’t know how to need anyone.”

I walk away as Cooper moves over to hug Nonna, letting that thought ruminate in my head. When I moved to Kroydon Hills, I thought I didn’t need anyone.

I was wrong.

Having people in my life I could depend on... people who could depend on me, made life better. And I don’t want to ever go back.

As I take my seat in the pew next to Belles, I let my eyes track Eleanor and her brother... my brother... Wow, that’s trippy.

I have brothers and sisters.

Holy shit.

I have a whole family, and they’ve been looking for me.

I lean in and whisper to Belles, “What’s Eleanor’s brother’s name?”

Of course, Belles has no clue and starts a whisper down the line, asking Nattie, “Nat, what’s Lenny’s brother’s name?”

Nat shrugs her shoulders.

“Jace,” a male voice says from behind me.

Well, shit.

All three of us turn to look at Jace and Lenny as they sit in the pew behind us.

I guess it’s Jace.
