Five daysafter Lenny and Bash’s wedding is my favorite night of the entire year. It’s the Kings season opener. And we have one hell of a team this year. All the commentators are already calling us the frontrunners for the championship game in January. Which means we have to work twice as hard as everyone else because the stakes are already so damn high.

When you’re sitting on top, people love to watch you fall.

Tonight is my first time experiencing this game as the president of Operations of the Philadelphia Kings. And while it’s a little surreal and a little sad, because the position still feels like it should belong to my father, it’s also exciting.

I’ve decided to do things a little differently than my father did.

We only had two preseason games this year, and only one of those was a home game, so I waited to switch things up until tonight.

I wanted everyone here for this.

Dad had an owner’s box he filled with high-profile guests for years.

In the years since his death, we continued that tradition. Max, Becks, Lenny, and I have had to be at each game. But the rest of my siblings come when they can, and they’ve all come tonight because I asked them to be here. I wanted tonight to be special.

I’m almost giddy as I push open the door of a new suite and smile as I face everyone.

“You’re all welcome to watch tonight’s game in the traditional owner’s suite if you want. But I wanted to do something new this year. I wanted a space where we could be ourselves and bring our families without putting them on display.” I run my hand over Brynlee’s hair and know this is the right thing to do for my family.

Lenny bounces on her toes and claps her hands like a lunatic. “This is perfect, Scarlet. What a great surprise. Why didn’t we think of this before?”

We all step into the new space that’s already been equipped with an Exersaucer and playpen for Maddox, as well as a toy box filled to the brim that Brynlee spots immediately.

What’s the point of being in charge if I can’t make it work to suit our needs?

“I’ve got one more announcement to make.” All my siblings stop talking amongst themselves and look to where Cade and I are standing, holding hands.

My ring finger is still bare. Cade wanted to get me a ring the day after Lenny’s wedding, but I wouldn’t let him. The ring doesn’t matter to me at all, only this man and our daughters.

“Cade and I got married last week.”

A cacophony of voices all rise at once, asking questions.

Demanding explanations.

It’s chaos, but everyone is smiling.

It’s drastically different from when I told them I was pregnant a few months ago.

“Calm down. I know you’re probably all mad that you didn’t get to be there, but in a way, you were.” I hope Lenny can forgive me.

“When did this happen?” Jace looks like he doesn’t believe me.

Hudson appears hurt. “Why did you wait to tell us?”

I share a quick glance with Cade before my eyes lock on my sister. “I didn’t want Lenny to be mad at me for stealing a piece of her night.” I wince when I hear how that sounds. “And for borrowing her officiant too. We kind of stole Declan Sinclair at your wedding and asked him to marry us under the old tree.”

Cade pulls me against him. “It felt like the right moment, and we wanted it to be just the four of us.”

“Aww... That’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard.” Lenny comes over and squeezes me tightly. “I’m not mad. I just wish I’d been there.”

“At least you didn’t wait ten years to tell us about it.” Fucking Becks.

“Don’t be a dick, Becket.” Lenny kicks his foot, then looks over to see if Brynn was paying attention to her language. “Oops.” “Sorry,” she mouths.

Cade shakes his head and runs his palm over my belly. “I guess we deserved that.” He kisses my lips, and I swear I don’t remember ever being happier. “Love you, duchess.”

“So...” Becket stands next to us, with a devilish look on his face and a beer in his hand. “Welcome to the family, Saint.” He claps Cade on the back. “Does this mean I get a discounted membership to the gym?”
