When I grunt, annoyed that no one has heard from Hudson, she clicks her tongue. “You told him not to come back until he’d apologized to Scarlet. Guess he’s not ready to do that just yet.”

“Fuck.” We’re only a few months out from his next fight.

I thought I’d be forcing his hand.

It was meant to be my way of making sure he apologized to his sister.

Not keeping him out of the fucking gym where he needs to be getting ready.

Gen grabs a water bottle from my mini-fridge and stares at me. Waiting. “Let me ask you, big brother. You want Hudson to fix things with Scarlet, but have you even told Mom and Dad about the baby? Or Rylie and Jillian, for that matter?”

Her hands move to her hips as she waits for the answer she already knows.

I haven’t told anyone yet.

I was hoping to have dinner with Scarlet tonight before calling my parents and older sister. I wanted to at least have some kind of game plan. Not to give them a new version of the holy shit I’m a dad call they got when Brynlee was deposited in my arms.

“See, that’s what I thought. Hudson fucked up and should fix it. But you aren’t exactly handling this like a champ just yet either, are you?” She opens the door and starts backing out but not before adding, “Handle your shit with your own family before you start messing around with your fighters and their families, Cade.” Then Gen pulls the door closed, and I watch through the office windows as she takes her place at the front desk.

The phone on my desk vibrates with an incoming call, and my mother’s face pops up on the screen, causing me to silently curse my sister.

It’s only Monday, and it’s already shaping up to be a stellar week.
