After she finished her master’s degree, Lenny moved home and started working for the professional football team our family owns, right around the same time she met her fiancé, Sebastian. Who happens to be Amelia’s brother-in-law. Go fucking figure. “Holy shit, Scar. What are you going to do?” Len’s voice is loud and carries throughout the kitchen.

She knows I’ve never wanted kids.

I love my life.

I love my career.

I love my family.

I never felt like anything was missing.

“You don’t need to yell, Len. I’m freaking out enough right now. And I’d say you both know me well enough to know... I. Don’t. Freak. The. Fuck. Out.” The words may come out a little harsher than I intended, but I’m holding on by a thin string right now, and it’s fraying quickly.

Lenny losing her cool is not going to help me stay calm.

“Umm. You don’t get to play the ice queen over something this big, Scarlet.” Len’s also always been insanely dramatic. “Holy shit. The family is going to lose their minds.”

Yeah. I’ve thought of that, and I’m already exhausted at what it’s going to take dealing with all my siblings’ reactions to this news.

Lenny drops down in a chair across from me while Amelia takes a sleeping Maddox from her and places him in his swing. In a soft voice, Amelia asks, “Do you know when it happened, Scar?”

“Forget when.” Lenny reaches for a bottle of wine, then glances at me sheepishly and places it back on the table. “Who’s the father, and are you going to keep it?”

One night.

I let myself have one night with him.

I’ve avoided him for years.

But apparently, one night was all it took for history to repeat itself.

Damnit.
