“I hadto take my shot, man.” Jake offers me his hand in the dressing room after the fight’s over.

“I know you did. But your cockiness cost you. You’ve got a lot going for you, kid. But you’ve fought cake fights till now. Your manager isn’t doing you any favors. If you ever want to train at Crucible, give me a call.” This kid has a lot going for him. But his trainer is also his manager. And he’s an asshole in both positions. I pound him on the back just as Hudson escorts Scarlet into the dressing room.

The smile on her face drops when she sees who I’m talking to and marches across the room. She hooks her arm through mine and stares at Jake. “Didn’t anyone tell you this was an exhibition?” My ice queen looks him over from head to toe and practically snarls at him.

“Hey, now. I’m the one who got knocked out, ma’am.” When he smiles, twin dimples pop in his cheeks, making him appear even younger than he already is.

Jesus. I was fighting a baby.

“Serves you right. Are you even out of high school? What are you? Fifteen?” She turns her back on Jake and throws her arms around my neck. “I did not like watching that at all.”

I run a hand down her back. “I’m fine, duchess. I won.”

“You let him hit you.” Oh, this woman. She owns me entirely.

I take a step back and grasp her face in my hands. “I hit him harder, duchess.”

Scarlet lifts up on her toes and kisses me in front of everyone. It’s a claim, and it’s fucking perfect. “I love you. Now take me home.”

Scarlet pulls out of the parking lot and laces her fingers through mine. “Are we going to my place or yours?”

“You know, duchess, if you’d just move in with me, there wouldn’t be any question about whose place we’re going to.”

She ignores my question and turns toward the city. “My place it is, then.”

“You didn’t answer my question.” I bring her hand up to my lips and kiss her knuckles, but she just smiles and pulls her hand away.

“That’s because you didn’t ask one.”

“Move in with me, Scarlet.” We’ve talked about it a few times over the last month but have always been interrupted. “You, me, Brynlee, and Baby St. James. You know we need to come up with a name still.”

She laughs and turns toward her condo. “You’re right. We haven’t come up with a name yet. What do you think of Olivia?”

“Olivia St. James... I like it. Think of how much easier it’ll be after she’s here if we’re living in the same home.”

Once we’re at a red light, she turns her head toward mine. “You want me to move in for the baby?”

“I want you to move in because I love you, Scarlet. And I don’t want to waste any more time. We’ve wasted enough.” She stares at me. No snarky retort at the ready until the light turns green and the car behind us beeps.

“Fine. I’ll move in with you.” Scarlet sounds like a petulant child, and it takes more strength than I needed for my earlier fight not to laugh at her.

“I love you, Scarlet.”

“Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I love you too.”
