“I thought I needed to bring you everything and then you’d decide whether I could move forward, Mr. Kingston?” I flutter my lashes coyly. “I don’t want special treatment because I’m sleeping with the boss.”

He reaches across the car, and I’m not sure what I thought he was going to do, but unbuckling my seatbelt was not it. I was expecting something much less tame. “Oh, you still have to make your presentation, Ms. Brenner. But I’ve watched you for a few weeks now. And I have no doubt you can do this.”

Well... shoot. Knowing that Max Kingston thinks I’m capable tugs at a heartstring I didn’t even know was even there. This man, who is the master of his own universe, is ready to give my dream a chance. And damn, I don’t want to let him down.

He gets out and rounds the car, opening my door. “I don’t beat around the bush, Daphne. And if I want something, I make it happen. If you want this, make it happen. Bring me what you’ve got tomorrow, and we’ll discuss allocating resources. And I want you to plan on a long meeting. Because after that, you’re going to help me get O’Doul on board with my plans for the team.”

“O’Doul is a puppy dog once you get to know him. But he doesn’t like change. Never has. I can help with that.”

He nods. “The stronger the team, the more financially sound, and the more funds to put toward Start A Revolution. Works out for both of us.”

I grab my clutch and heels from the floor of the car, then lift up on my toes and kiss his cheek. I put a little extra sway in my step as his eyes burn into me while I walk to the front door, then turn my head and smile. “See you tomorrow, boss.”
