I take the remote from Dixon and return it to Watkins. “Bad news, big guy. Carys is still in love with her ex. I’m holding out hope they work it out.”

“Damn. Well, you can’t blame a guy for trying. What about Chloe?” He wiggles his eyebrows, not caring that he looks ridiculous.

Dix throws him a look. “Dude. You couldn’t handle Chloe.”

“More like she couldn’t handle me. Come on, D. Put in a good word for me.”

Dixon and I look at each other. “Give him her number, D. It could be funny to see just how badly she shoots him down.”

“Oh. Want to make a bet on how long the call lasts?” I pull my phone from my pocket.

“You guys are dicks,” Watty grumbles.

“Nope. Not all of us,” Maddie adds.

I push up from the couch and smile at the guys. “Well, it’s been real, fellas, but I’ve got to go. I’ll see you all tomorrow. Remember to practice your smiles. The more money you go for, the more money we get to give to the kids.”

“You heading to Max’s?” Maddie knows that’s where I’m going. I’m not sure why she’s poking the sleeping bear. Dixon usually gets grouchy at the mention of Max’s name.

“Yeah. I told him I’d meet him after you and I were done.”

“I heard Beneventi saying at practice the Kingstons usually match whatever donations the Kings foundation raises. Hope they’ll do that for you too, D.”

“Really?” That’s news to me.

“Yup. He said they like to keep that shit quiet, but they’re all about giving back. They just don’t like it to be the headline.” Cinder chooses that moment to pounce on Watkins, and paw at his face with her little white declawed paw.

“And were you whining about being auctioned off when Bash told you this, Watty?” Maddie kicks at his leg from where she’s sitting.

“Maybe.” Watkins blushes, and it’s adorable. “But I didn’t really mean it.” He raises his fist for a bump, and I smile and return it.

“Love you guys.” Thank God for good friends.

Maddie and Watkins say goodnight, and my heart drops when Dixon doesn’t say anything. Until he does...

“Night, D. Drive careful.” It might not be much. But I’m grateful for it all the same.
