Her actions had prevented them from reaching the natural conclusion of their last affair. Perhaps this was the closure she needed.

Or maybe you’re deluding yourself.

She shied away from the taunting voice, happily gave up thinking as Tahir spoke again.

‘A sacrifice I won’t deny myself,’ he concluded thickly, his hands tightening on her inner thighs. Right before he parted her to his searing gaze.

For another interminable age, he simply stared down at her, his tongue moving languidly over his bottom lip in shameless, ravenous anticipation.

‘Tahir.’ His name was a croak of helpless need that had his nostrils flaring in satisfaction and triumph. That had his broad shoulders squaring as if accepting his regal due.

‘Yes,habibti. You will say my name like that, scream it when I bring you pleasure.’

Another imperious command she had no trouble obeying.

And when he lowered his head and boldly tasted her, she cried out, her head rolling back as desire rippled in relentless waves through her.

He teased and tormented, savoured and pleasured her until his name was an anthem, her hands blindly seeking his broad shoulders as he pushed her to the brink.

The sweet torment intensified as he kept her there, repeatedly denying her release until she was a mindless mess.

Only then did he grant her the climax that had her screaming his name, her nails digging into his flesh as bliss washed over her.

Eyes squeezed shut, her breathing rapid enough to cause alarm, she felt him climb onto the rock beside her, gather her close.

Still drunk on her release, she burrowed into him, the warmth and scent of his skin filling her with further delight.

But soon the silence encroached, the fractious past and unstable present splintering the air in the aftermath.

She wanted to raise her head, look into his face and decipher what he was thinking but, again, she feared what he would read in hers.

So when, without speaking, he slipped off the rock and lowered them both into the water, she told herself it was for the best. When he swam to the other side, heaved himself out of the water and began to dress, she convinced herself there was no reason to be upset.

And yet, upset she was as she too dressed, and they picnicked in silence. As she let him lift her back onto the camel to complete their journey.

He shouldn’t have done that.

The grim conclusion settled deeper into Tahir as they dressed. For starters, he’d created a memory he’d now always associate with Lauren at a place special to him.

He’d given in to temptation.

He exhaled in self-loathing and self-recrimination.

Mere hours after he’d proclaimed such a thing would never happen, he’d jumped into the fire of desire that now threatened to consume him. He grimaced and adjusted the painful throbbing of his arousal. To compound his sins, he couldn’t stop glancing her way. Couldn’t stop his eyes lingering on lips reddened from his kisses. From examining the faint marks he’d left on her neck with his heavy caresses as she half-heartedly nibbled fruit from their picnic spread.

Steering his gaze away for the umpteenth time, he willed calm into his body, dredged up all the reasons why tangling with her was a bad idea.

But those reasons felt hollow when all he could concentrate on were her moans, her eager responses and those greedy hands on his body.

Tahir was relieved when he finally guided her to his riad.

Home.

Yet another place he was bringing Lauren to that held the potential to etch memories he didn’t want added to the fabric of his life.

The solution is easy. End this now. Send her away.

His unfettered growl made the camel corralled nearby grunt uneasily.
