“But wait,” I gasped, holding him back for a second.

“What’s wrong?” he frowned. “Did I hurt you?”

I shook my head, unable to keep the smile from my lips. “No, not at all. I just…there’s so much going on that we need to figure out.”

He shook his head and leaned his forehead against mine. “What’s left to figure out? We’re searching for Bixby, just like you promised Poppet. Astrid is helping her get back on her feet. You’re alive. I’m alive, and I’m completely healed. The rest will sort itself out. Right now, all I want is to be with you.”

“Jack.” I sighed, sliding my hands around his sides, scratching my nails lightly over his back.

“The question is, Rebekah, what do you want? What do you need right now?”

A smile curled across my lips. He was right. The rest would sort itself out, and whatever didn’t work, we’d fix together. I wasn’t alone anymore. I had friends, family. I had Jackson, and if he had anything to say about it, I wouldn’t have to fight my battles alone ever again.

“I love you,” I said, brushing my fingers over his cheek. “With every part of me. I hope you know that.”

Leaning in, he brushed his lips over mine with the smallest touch and whispered. “I love you more than I ever thought possible.”

“Always?” I asked, chasing his lips for a kiss.

He smiled from ear to ear. “Always.”
