The sheet is pushed to the side. His gray shirt I am wearing is hitched up to my waist, leaving me completely bare down below.

Oh, God.

I blush and pull it down.

Was I sleeping like this when Kai woke up?

Embarrassment washes over me, and with it, the realization that I was almost naked in bed with him.

And yesterday…

Shit, shit, shit.

The memories flicker in my mind with the intensity of the parrots’ trills and whistles outside. I am not sure I can look Kai in the eyes today.

I hear shouting outside, scramble out of bed, and find my bikini and the rest of my clothes neatly stacked on the nightstand.

It’s even more embarrassing, knowing that Kai folded my clothes.

When I open the door to the outside, it’s too bright. And suddenly, the memory of the walk of shame at the frat house is back.

There is no one around, but I feel exposed all the same.

Until more angry shouting comes from the direction of the kitchen.

Not good.

Almost the entire village is gathered in the dining room, sitting, standing around with arms crossed, raking their hair, or staring absently around.

Ty is in Jeok’s face, both shirtless and barefoot.

“It’s us against them,” Jeok snaps. “We gonna be fucked!”

“Don’t be a fucking pussy!” Ty pushes him in the chest. It’s the angriest I’ve ever seen him. “No one forced you to come to this side. No one forces you to leave either.”

“They don’t belong here!” Kristen comes up to stand next to Jeok, glaring at Ty.

And then everyone starts shouting.

“They will destroy the village!”

“The girls have to go!”

“They should have a choice!”

“He’ll come for them, and it will be war!”

“We already lost three people!”

“Shut your mouth!”

“You wanna tell them how it really is here? Tell them about Olivia!”

That name again.

“Let’s vote!”

I come up behind Katura, who stands watching this all with sardonic amusement, arms crossed at her chest.
