The rain lashes mercifully, but there are voices, people, land.

My head bobs as I try to rub my eyes and cough, fighting the burning sensation in my chest and nose.

There is light.

Light!

“There are three of them,” the voice says.

So familiar.

I know it.

I finally wipe my face and eyes and look up at the man who still holds me in his arms as he steps into a dimly lit room.

Fate is strange.

It’s weird.

Unpredictable.

Cruel.

Right now, it sends a blow so hard that I think I died and ended up in some screwed up dream.

Because I know the face in front of me.

He…

The sight of him is like a silent slap.

I am confused, lost, and shocked.

Can’t be…

The eyes that stare back at me are as confused. And as shocked. And dark. Probing. Hypnotic. Overwhelming.

Four years later, and I still feel too much gazing in those eyes—a jolt of excitement, anger, hurt.

Shame…

I thought that the worst would be meeting Archer Crone.

But the worst is in front of me.

The man who ruined me four years ago.

Who took my innocence and turned my life into hell.

Who is a constant reminder of past mistakes.

The boy I never wanted to see again.

Kai Droga.
