I look at Callie, waiting for her to speak.

She stands with her arms wrapped around her middle and watches Archer as if expecting him to jump her.

The situation is almost comical. I cross my arms over my chest and watch him with amusement.

Now I get a chance to really study him in full light as he is making a drink with indifferent slowness.

Dark hair slightly disheveled but on purpose. Perfectly symmetrical features, a strong jaw, eyes with lashes too dark for a guy, which makes his gaze more intense and scorching without trying. A perfect splash of tan. Does he suntan naked? Is there a tanning booth here? No sign of stubble. A black shirt, untucked and unbuttoned too low, giving a glimpse of gold Cuban links around his neck, sleeves rolled up, exposing strong arms. Jeans tight but in all the right places.

Perfection.

Such looks and the brain—he could’ve been God’s masterpiece if not for the control freak attitude and self-esteem higher than the Empire State, which shows in his every move. So high in fact that I want to slap it off his face. Just a little slap. Doesn’t hurt to try.

I smirk inwardly, keeping my face cool. He is mesmerizing, and I want to touch him to see if he is as cold to the touch as he looks. He likes sex as per rumors—that’s a good sign. The thought of it makes me throb in all the right places. I really want his strong lean body to take charge of mine. And I really need that ice he is dropping into his glass to cool me the fuck down from my untimely thoughts.

I finally look away and glance in the mirror behind the bar.

Shit…

Archer’s reflection stares directly at me as he pours himself a drink without looking.

He is like a hawk, watching everything, capturing every detail.

Careful, Kat.

I hitch the corner of my lips in a cold practiced smile as I blink away.

He is going to be a dick to me. I can tell. Getting the info I came to this island for might be more difficult than I thought. One way to impress someone like him is to be a total pain in the ass and get under his skin. If it doesn’t get me kicked off this island, it might get me in his bed. And I will ride my way into his lab and data center with a healthy dose of orgasms. If he is not useless in bed, that is.

Archer takes a sip of his drink and turns to properly look at us with a cold expression on his face.

His movements are slow and on point as he walks across the room toward us, then stops several feet away, shoves his hand in his jean pocket, and cocks his head, his eyes moving from me to Callie, and back to me.

He is reserved and indifferent. But when he looks at me, my entire body turns into a tight string. I don’t get it. Yeah, I would like to play with him.

There is something behind that invisible gaze. The intensity. Like he is calculating something. Those IQ points must be flickering like slot machine reels, assessing everything around.

I knew Callie would falter under his sharp gaze. She needs to grow claws if she wants to dig herself out of this hole. Especially with Archer.

“What are you planning to do with me?” she asks.

Archer takes another slow tasteful sip and shrugs. “Nothing.” I almost want to laugh. “I am not interested in you. Never was. Your existence in my world is solely to get to Droga.”

Cold. I didn’t expect that. His voice is so monotonous that it’s almost disappointing.

“What are your plans for Kai?” Callie asks.

“I’ll decide when he gets here,” Archer says. “It’s between him and I.”

“No.” Callie shakes her head and takes a step closer. “Not anymore, Archer. Kai is my boyfriend, so whatever you intend to do has directly to do with me.”

That’s a start. Her voice is surprisingly confident.

Archer’s lips curl in a tiny smirk. “Sweetheart, where were you four years ago with this determination?”

Silence sinks between them. Archer’s eyes move to me and stay unblinking.

I force a cold smile. “Any plans for me?” I tilt my head slightly to mimic him, though I’m tense at the words because I still need to figure out what course to take with him. “I am not part of the sweet duet over here,” I say, broadening my smile. “So I am curious.”
