The words are strange as if this is one of those getaways we used to do.

But it’s not.

Except, this is might be my only chance.

Determined, I yank my shirt over my head, Callie grabbing it out of my hands.

I don’t say anything when I kick off my shoes and take a step toward Crone.

He smirks, studying my tattooed torso—his doing.

My jaw tightens.

It’s on.

KATURA

I got lucky.

When darkness fell, I went to one of security checkpoints to find Marlow.

“I need to know what’s happening. Are you on Archer’s patrol?”

He wasn’t. But the orders kept coming through the radio.

And the moment the order came for Archer’s team to move out, I knew Kai and Callie didn’t have a chance.

“You knew they couldn’t run, didn’t you?” I asked Marlow, angry at the news.

He looked at me like I was a child. “You don’t know how many cameras are on this island. They’ve been waiting for him.”

“Then why the fuck did you tell Callie to go meet him?”

“Because Kai asked Ty for it. Whatever happened, he wanted to be with her.”

Jeez, if it could get any cheesier and more dramatic, I would’ve thrown up in my mouth.

But I didn’t let go of Marlow, demanding to know everything that was happening. And when the message came through that they were heading to Carnage, I grabbed Marlow by the arm.

“What’s Carnage? I wanna go.”

He rolled his eyes.

But persuasion is my middle name. Plus, Marlow has a thing for me, I think. Or maybe just a soft heart. So I’ll use it.

Half an hour later, here we are.

“Hack/Slash” by Ghostemane is blasting through the hangar, deafening me. But I grin.

Carnage is boiling with testosterone that’s almost tangible on my skin. A couple hundred or so people, mostly from town.

The place is crawling with armed security.

I catch sight of Kai and Callie right away, down below, by the cage. Archer is there too, among a dozen guards. The three almost look like they are the VIP.

While Marlow has a straight face, his eyes occasionally flickering around, I can’t hold back my excitement.
