Not yet.

I’ll get my shot when the time is right.

I always do.

“Where are the girls? And where the hell is Val?” I walk into the foyer and stare up at the top of the staircase where Dmitri grins down with that smug-ass face of his.

His smile is so wide, his lips practically wrap around his throat. He doesn’t just look like the cat who swallowed the canary. He looks like he devoured the whole goddamn nest of them.

“Val is gone, dipshit. That’s why the other girls are here. You can see them when we reach an agreement. They’re in good hands right now, watching us on a video feed with strict instructions that both will be killed if you or your brothers decide to make a move on me.” He takes his time walking down from the top of the spiral staircase. “Natasha is of no use to me, of course. But Tori.” He lets out a sinister chuckle. “I bet she’s a stallion in bed. I’d have a lot of fun taming that ass. I see a renegotiation coming.”

I glare at Dmitri, my eyes transforming everything in my line of sight into a deep red. The cool metal of the stiletto presses against my ankle, my fingers itching to grab it and hurl it straight into Dmitri’s throat.

But I know, as he does, that the girls are dead if I so much as bend over.

One false move and heads will literally roll.

Dmitri is a big fan of decapitation, sick fuck that he is.

“How’s the shoulder, Nik?” Dmitri says as he crosses the foyer. “Hope you didn’t like that shirt too much.”

“There won’t be a renegotiation,” I say flatly.

Dmitri spins in my direction, his thick eyebrows flying upward. “If you don’t hand over Tori and my money, you’re going to start a war with my family. And spoiler alert, dick. You’ll never win it. My brothers have been waiting to open fire on your ass. Just give them a reason, Luka.”

I walk toward him, stopping when I’m directly in his face. I lean forward. “Go fuck yourself.”

He winds up his fist and launches it, but instead of hitting me, he slams it against the wall next to me. With a loud moan, he clutches his fist before looking back at me, his eyes blazing with hatred.

Dmitri pulls out his gun and points it at me. “I’m gonna be king, bitch. And Tori is gonna be my queen. All I need to do is pull this trigger. I don’t need you. I’ve been playing nice, but what the hell for? Your family needs us. Who else is gonna stop me from taking what I want if you’re out of the picture? Nik? Taras? Fucking pussies, all of you,” he screams, pointing the barrel of the gun at the ceiling and firing off a handful of shots.

Shards of Murano glass from the chandelier overhead fly through the air, shattering when they hit the tile floor. The floor tiles are a mess of red, orange, and blue splintered fragments, and Dmitri stands in the middle of the mess.

He holds out the gun and points it at me. “Your choice. Agree to my terms or say goodbye to everything. You’re no leader. You’re a fucking thug. If I kill you, I’d be doing your whole family a favor.”

A strong force grabs my arm, yanking it hard and pressing it against my back. Whoever it is smashes a gun against my temple. I slant a look over my shoulder. Nik and Taras are surrounded. Fuck. Fuck!

Dmitri smirks. “I told you, I have eyes and hands everywhere. So, what’s your choice? You gonna give me a bride? Or am I gonna blow your head off?”
