Aurora shrieks and ducks for cover inside the car.

I jump in behind her, crawling over her to the driver’s seat.

No time to waste. They’re shooting at us from the window.

“Don’t let them escape!” Lex roars across the grounds.

But I’ve already started up the engine and smashed the pedal. The tires screech as I turn the wheel and drive across the pavement, skidding on the road. I pay no attention to how fast I’m going. It’s not fast enough.

“Oh, God, oh God!” Aurora panics beside me, clutching her naked body like it’s her last lifeline.

I’m driving like the devil is coming after us. Because when I look through the rearview mirror, I can clearly see five or more guards running after us with guns at the ready.

BANG!

Another shot enters the vehicle from behind, and I steer as fast as I can.

“Hold on!” I yell as we approach the gate.

“What are you going to do? No, you can’t—” Her words are interrupted by her own shriek as I drive straight through the barrier.

The front of the car takes the biggest hit as the light is smashed to bits. But we made it through.

I veer onto the main road and keep driving as fast as possible, ignoring the speed limit. Cars next to me and behind me beep loudly when I pass them and cut them off, but I don’t give a shit.

“Oh my God, Beast,” Aurora says, anxiety lacing her voice. “You’re bleeding!”

I follow her eyes down to a wound in my abdomen oozing blood. A bullet must’ve grazed me.

Fuck. I don’t have time for this. “Not now.”

Right now, we have to get as far away from those fuckers as possible.

Because if they manage to catch up … it will be literal hell waiting for us both.

I ignore the pain and drive even faster. If we want to survive, I have to give it my all.

Aurora holds on to her tits and the door as if she’s scared she’ll fall out and simultaneously flash someone. But right now, that’s the least of our problems.

Behind us are two other black cars with blacked-out windows, and I definitely recognize them.

“They’re on our tail,” I say.

“Oh no,” she mutters, peering out the back window. “Drive faster!”

“I’m trying,” I say, but someone in front of me won’t let me pass.

I hit the brakes only to veer sideways and pass them when they aren’t looking, stomping the gas and sticking up my middle finger when they look. Aurora is mortified when they see her nude body, and she quickly dives for cover on the floorboard.

“Stay there,” I say. “Better for when they shoot.”

“Whenthey shoot?” She gasps. “It’s broad daylight!”

“That won’t stop him,” I reply, hitting sixth gear and racing off. “We need more traffic. Civilians are the only thing getting in their way.”

I veer left and right, hopping from lane to lane, switching up the tempo to get between all the cars. When I look to my left, I spot something that could be of use: A very old car parked on someone’s driveway, not too far from this road.

I get off the highway as quickly as possible and turn around multiple times toward a road marked as a dead-end.
