“Hell no.”

“Keep that in mind then. Plus, if it really was just a fling, it’s probably over now. She was mortified we walked in on her.”

“Yeah, I guess so.” He pauses, but I can tell there’s more he wants to say. “I should probably get going.”

Hopping off the bed, I grab my robe and slip my arms through, tying it tightly around my waist. “Let’s go,boyfriend.”

Finn chuckles but leads the way through the apartment, our fingers laced together. After a swift kiss good-bye, he’s bounding down the stairs on his way back to his place.

Two weeks and then all the lying and sneaking around will be over. Our relationship will be out in the open. If Max has an issue with it, he’s going to have to get over it because I love that man and I want to be able to tell him without the fear of someone overhearing.

“Morning,” Kendall groans as she walks into the kitchen. I’m standing in front of the coffee maker, waiting for my cup to finish percolating. They say these single serve machines are faster, but in reality, if you drink more than two cups, they only slow the process down.

“Hey. You okay?” I ask, finally turning around and taking a good look at her.

“Fine.” But she’s not and anyone with two eyes and a brain can tell.

“Well, you look like shit, so I guess fine is an overstatement.” K glares at me but doesn’t respond. “Are you sure you don’t want to talk about it?”

“Give me your coffee and I’ll consider it,” she challenges.

Under normal circumstances, it’s every woman for herself when it comes to coffee. One look at my bestie and I know whatever is going on with her should not be filed under normal. I’ve never seen her this exhausted, and I have a feeling it’s not from lack of sleep.

Fixing my, now Kendall’s, cup of coffee, I hand it over and pop in a fresh pod. We stare at each other as we wait for my cup to brew. Once we both have a coffee in hand, we head into the living room and settle on the sofa.

“Talk, girl. I’m here to listen. No judgment.”

Kendall let’s out a heavy high but doesn’t start talking right away, instead sipping her coffee until its half gone. I don’t push her. If it’s this hard for her to talk about it, I have a feeling it’s more serious than I anticipated. Not just a fling. At least not on her end. Her words only confirm my suspicions.

“I like him.”

“Okay. I’m going to assume you mean the guy you were riding on the couch yesterday.”

“Yeah. Did Finn tell you who he is?”

“Nope. I swore him to secrecy. I don’t want to know unless you want me to.”

“Not yet. I don’t think it’s going anywhere but I do know I like him. We’ve only hung out a few times. That was the first time we did anything more than kiss. You just happened to walk in right as things were getting hot and heavy.”

“Sorry for ruining the party,” I joke, hoping to at least get her to smile.

“No, it was perfect timing. He’d just put the condom on, and we were about to, but I’m glad we didn’t. I don’t think it’s going to work out. He’s just too … too much. I don’t know how to explain it.”

Hard to believe, but if it’s true, I think it’s a clear sign Kendall may have met her match.
