I have no idea what I want to say to him. No idea how to explain the way I reacted aside from being caught off guard. I want to apologize for hurting his feelings but I’m not sure that’s the right move either.

If the situation were reversed, I wouldn’t want him to apologize to me. It would make me feel even more rejected.

Knocking a second time when he doesn’t immediately answer the door, I take in the small porch I’m standing on. All the buildings are constructed of white-washed stones. The pillars stretch far over my head. There’s a wooden swing off to my left. I can picture myself drinking a cup of coffee in the morning, watching the sunrise as I sway back and forth.

Caught up in the beauty that surrounds me, I don’t hear Eli open the door. It’s not until he grabs my hand, lacing our fingers together, that I realize I’m still staring at the swing.

“See something you like?” he asks, giving my hand a little tug.

When I turn, my mouth drops open as I slowly nod my head up and down. Eli’s standing in the doorway, shirtless. Abs on display. Basketball shorts hanging low on his hips.

“I was talking about the swing,” he states, stepping backward into his villa, pulling me with him.

In true Taylor fashion, I trip over the threshold, my body slamming into Eli’s bare chest. As if he was prepared for my clumsiness, he doesn’t budge from where he’s standing just inside of the door. Reaching past me, he pushes it closed, the sound of the latch sliding into place echoing off the walls of the small space.

“Taylor,” Eli whispers as my free hand explores his body, tracing the lines of his exposed chest, his abs, and finally teasing the band of his boxer briefs, “don’t start anything you can’t finish.”

“And if I don’t want to stop this time?” I ask, my body beginning to hum at the thought of being with Eli.

The first time we were in this situation, Eli walked in on me getting out of the shower. I had spilled coffee all over the front of me before lunch and decided to clean up in the bathroom of his trailer. When I walked into his bedroom, expecting it to be empty, in only my bra and underwear, I found Eli standing in the doorway. His stare heated my skin as he slowly inspected every inch.

Of course, I stood there, my feet frozen to the floor. Watching him watch me. Goosebumps pebbling in the wake of his gaze.

Like a lion stalking his prey, he pounced when I least expected him to. One second, I was watching the heavy rise and fall of his chest, the next his hands were gripping my hips, lifting me, his body pressing me against the wall. We stayed like that, making out, exploring, revving each other’s engines, until there was a knock at his door.

He ignored it.

I freaked out.

Then there was the time I stayed at his place before we left for Seattle. We were cuddled in bed, exhausted from a long, grueling day of filming. Ansen had been particularly difficult that day and that was part of why I stayed at his place instead of driving home. I could barely keep my eyes open, so when we fell in bed, I assumed we’d both crash.

All it took was the feel of his warm body pressed against mine to stir my desire. I tried to rub my thighs together in an effort to alleviate the ache but all that did was fire Eli up. One thing led to another, and soon I was straddling him, grinding. I rode him until we were both spent, coming together without actually having sex.

The tension has only built since then. We’ve stretched the thread as far as it can go. All it’ll take is a gentle tug to cause it to splinter.

“Taylor,” Eli cautions, gripping my hand harder and closing the little distance between our bodies.

Wiggling my hand free of his grasp, my other trapped between our bodies, my palm over his heart, I slide it inside of his shorts and cup his erection.

It’s the tug that breaks the thread of self-control he was holding onto.

Letting out a guttural growl, Eli grabs my ass, lifting me as I wrap my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist. Turning quickly, his long strides carry us to the bedroom at the back of the villa in seconds where he drops me on the bed and stares down at me.

“Before we go any further, there’s something I have to ask.” The serious tone in his voice is a clear indication of what he wants to ask me.

“Yes,” I state.

“Will you—”

“Yes.” Keeping my voice even, my eyes leveled with his, I try to convey my message without words. It seems he needs to hear them though.

“I didn’t even get a chance to ask you.”

“You don’t have to. I may have said no last night, but I wanted to say yes. I’m scared out of my mind, afraid to get hurt, to end up on the front page of the magazines that tear people apart for fun, but I’m also afraid of losing you. So yes, Eli. I will go out with you. To the movies, to dinner, wherever you want to go. Because I can’t deny the way I feel about you anymore.”

“Okay then,” he says, a grin slowly spreading. “No turning back.”

Nodding my head, agreeing with his statement, my eyes fall to his hands as he slides his thumbs in the band of his shorts. In one quick motion, he drops them to the ground along with his boxer briefs. His rigid erection is bobbing up and down as I continue to stare.
