“Oh, yeah? When did you get so smart?” I tilt my head playfully, but my smile falls as his words smack me across the face.

“Right about the time you stormed off and your mother started crying. I’m a sucker for tears, you know this. I let her cry on my shoulder for a few minutes, but I didn’t coddle her. She knows she screwed up. She knows she was a bad mother. She’s also afraid you’ll never speak to her again. That she’s destroyed your relationship.”

“She has.”

“No, she hasn’t. Nothing is beyond repair. The damage is done, but you can work to fix the foundation. Start over. Get to know each other. Talk, without yelling. Not today, and probably not tomorrow, but eventually you two will get to a point where you’ll be able to sit in the same room and chat over a cup of coffee.”

I growl, but my distaste for the idea is muffled when Eli’s lips land on mine. I try to fight him, but he wraps his arms around my waist and holds me close. When I eventually melt into the kiss, I feel him smile against my lips.

“Cheater,” I mumble as I pull back slightly before allowing him to take control again.

“We still owe your friends a pic, you know that, right?” He releases my lips but keeps his hands secured to my hips.

“Um, no we don’t. They can use their imaginations.”

“Or you could be a good friend and send them a picture.”

“That was a joke before you and I started seeing each other. It would be weird to send it now. Plus, you weren’t supposed to be aware of the picture. That takes all the fun out of it.”

“Fine. I’m going to walk around without a shirt from now on then,” he states firmly, popping the buttons on his Oxford seductively, slowly revealing the bronzed skin beneath.

“The last thing I’m going to be thinking about is taking a picture if you don’t have a shirt on.”

“What if I lose the pants, too? What would you be thinking about then?” A wicked smile plays on Eli’s lips as he pushes off the chair, popping the last button on his shirt as he untucks it, and let’s it fall to the ground. When he reaches for the button of his jeans, I stop him.

“You’re going to get yourself in trouble, Simms,” I warn.

“Maybe I like trouble.”

“By all means then,” I say, taking a step back and waving my arms for him to continue.

The thing is, I like trouble, too. Especially when he’s involved. Especially when he’s naked. With me beneath him, screaming his name loud enough for the entire neighborhood to hear.

Which is exactly what will happen.

“I think you like trouble, too,” Eli says with a smirk on his face.

“Oh, we’re back to this?”

“Admit it. You like me, Taylor.”

“I guess you’re okay,” I joke, unable to hide my smile. “I think I’ll keep you around for a while.”

“You think?” he asks, lifting his right brow. Shrugging my shoulders, I don’t say anything else until he leans in close, his breath fanning across the nape of my neck as he whispers, “Want to know what I think? I think you love me as much as I love you.”
