It’s beenthree weeks since Lex confided in me about her past. As each day passes, I’m amazed at how many little things I notice about her that make perfect sense now. As if I’ve opened a book, a manual with all the little details I need to know, and each day I’m reading a new chapter.

From the baggy clothes to avoid attracting attention. To her perfect hair giving off the impression that she’s still trying. To the hours she spends studying even after she’s sure she knows the material inside and out.

Lex is a walking contradiction.Mywalking contradiction.

Yep.

I wore her down.

We’re official. Boyfriend and girlfriend. And I like the title. I wear it proudly. I even went as far as to get us shirts that sayMy better half(with an arrow pointing to the right) andHis better half. We haven’t worn them yet. Lex wants to save them for the Palmers’ Labor Day party.

Fine by me. All our friends will be there, so I won’t have to make some big statement the way Finn did. My parents will be there, and I’m excited to introduce them to Lex.

We threw away the original list and have started drafting a new one.

1. Sex at least three times a week. (You had to know this one was a keeper.)

2. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights are date nights.

3. No other bedmates.

4. No sex in public. (I kiss her all the time on campus now and have no intention of stopping. This was her way of making sure I didn’t start stripping her in the middle of the quad. Or outside of the library. In the cafeteria.)

5. No keeping secrets.

6. No baggy clothes. (This one is for Lex. I want her to be proud of her body.)

Since I put one on the list specifically for Lex, she’s been thinking for almost a week about what she wants on there specifically for me. She keeps telling me the list feels unbalanced.

I want to say I’d be fine with whatever she wants to add, but I’m a little hesitant. Her mind is beautiful, but it can also be dangerous. Which is why I gave her until the end of summer to come up with her one item. She has exactly three and a half weeks to figure it out or we’re going to consider the list complete.

That’s a lie. There are a few things I’ve been meaning to run by her that I think she’ll like, but I have to wait until she gets back from her girls’ trip this weekend. Kendall’s sister, Kora, came back into town early and whisked all the girls away for the weekend. They even invited Evie, Lo’s little sister, to join them.

“Did you pick up the steaks?” Dec asks, stomping into the kitchen where I’ve been prepping the rest of the food by myself thanks to him. He’s been sulking since Kendall took off this morning.

“Yes. Did you pick up the beer?”

“Yeah, but we’re gonna need more.”

“Why? It’s only one night,” I point out.

When Finn suggested we all go camping while the girls were gone, I wasn’t thrilled. It was a reminder of my first weekend with Lex and I wanted her to be there with me. To take her in the tent again. And again. And...

You get the idea.

However, the look on Finn’s face when he asked told me this was more for him than it was for me, so I reluctantly agreed.

And then I told, instead of asked, Declan our plans for tonight. Because I knew he would sulk around the apartment if I left him alone. Plus, a little brotherly bonding would be good for us, right? Now that we all have girlfriends we don’t see as much of each other as we used to.

So, the plan is to camp tonight, grill some food, play a little poker, drink some beers, and chill.

“Max is coming,” Dec states.

“And that warrants more beer? I thought you bought a twenty-four pack. That’s still six each.”

“Max invited a few people.”
