Julian

She's in my arms, where she belongs. It's only happened one other time. She was fast asleep. I don't even think she's aware she let me hold her. Which made it even more amazing. She felt comfortable enough with me. Trusted me.

Something I've found doesn't come easy with her.

"You can let me go now." Piper's staring up at me, her chest still pressed to mine. She's clearly shook and apparently not as comfortable as I am being this close.

Releasing the hold I have on her, Piper takes two steps back but never breaks eye contact with me. It's not until Brady shouts my name from the front door that either of us look away.

"Come on, you two. The party's already started. What the hell are you doing out here anyway?" he asks as he lazily makes his way toward us. "This guy putting the moves on you, Piper? Just say the word and I'll kick his ass."

Piper shakes her head at Brady, releasing a soft laugh, and walks away. "Not likely," I hear her whisper to herself as she passes.

My eyes track her until she's inside the house and out of sight. Something I've trained myself not to do over the years, but I can't seem to look away.

"You ever going to admit it?" Brady nudges my shoulder when I don't answer. "It's not like it's a secret at this point. We can all see it. I'd be surprised if she didn't see it too."

But that's the thing. She doesn't see it. She never has. Or, at least, she's never let on that she knows.

I've hinted on more than one occasion, but my words have fallen on deaf ears.

"Come on, man," he urges when I continue to stare after Piper, my feet firmly planted to the ground.

Not because I don't want to run after her, pull her back into my arms, and press my lips against her. But because that's exactly what I want to do. It's what I've wanted to do since the moment we met three years ago.

Maxand I are deep in conversation when I hear Willow call out his name. The redhead who's been drooling over him all night glares at Willow as Max immediately heads in her direction, leaving red behind. She wasn't all that interesting. We both knew she was looking for one thing and one thing only.

Sex.

Max would have happily obliged her too. He still might. If she sticks around, I imagine he'll whisk her away to his room later for a quickie. It's happened before, and it'll happen again. But never with Willow around.

It's our first big party of the year, and the house is packed. Half-naked bodies are grinding against each other in the main room, the heat level quickly escalating. Max and I came back here to cool down about ten minutes ago while we waited for Willow to arrive.

She quickly introduces us to her new roommates. Kendall, a short brunette with stick straight hair, and Alexis, a dirty blonde wearing an oversized sweatshirt.

It's the woman to her left who catches my attention and holds it, though.

Piper.

She's the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen in my life. Dark chocolate brown hair that falls in waves down her back. Petite frame. Legs for days accentuated by a pair of heeled boots. It may be her gorgeous body that draws me in, but it's her jade green eyes that hold me captive.

Even in the dimly lit room, they sparkle.

And they're locked on me. Studying me the same way I'm studying her.

When her gaze falls to the tattoos covering my right arm, I resist the urge to flex. Working out with the baseball team this past year has toned every muscle, giving me more confidence in my appearance. Not that I wasn't fit before, but the grueling workouts coach puts us through, especially in the off-season, has upped my game.

Brady calls my name, and I excuse myself before I say something stupid.

That didn't stop me from tracking her every move all night long. From watching as the girls talked to most of my frat brothers and a few guys I didn't recognize.

When Lo and Kendall make their way toward where Max and I are stationed at the keg, I avert my eyes.

"Enjoying Lake State so far?" I ask, my question not directed at either of them in particular, but I'm not surprised when it's Max who pipes up and answers for them.

"Of course they are. Best school around. Best frat on campus."

All I can do is shake my head at Max. He's so damn proud of this house. I get he's a legacy. His father and grandfather were both members. But the fraternity is far from the greatest on campus. If we want to make it that way, we have a lot of work to do.
