For two weeks I've been doing everything I can think of to show her what she means to me. That I know her better than she realizes. Aside from a few suggestions from Brady, I haven't asked anyone for help.

"Want my advice?"

I don't, but I know he's going to give it to me anyway. And to be honest, his advice hasn't been all that bad so far. For a guy who doesn't seem to date, who mysteriously disappears at the most convenient times, reappearing when you'd rather he stay gone, Brady knows a lot more than anyone gives him credit for. Including me.

"Just chill. Let things happen the way they're meant to. If she feels about you the way you think she does, but she's fighting it, pushing her isn't going to work. You've already put yourself out there. The ball is in her court. Let her make the next move. When she's ready."

"But what if—"

"She never makes a move?" I hate when he finishes my sentences.

"Yeah."

"Then you're going to have to find a way to move on. You can't force her to date you. You can't force her to want to be with you. And tricking her into it might work for a little while, but she's a smart girl. She'll figure out what's going on eventually, and it'll backfire on you."

He basically toldme to walk away. To let her come to me. But I'm not sure I know how to do that. I'm not sure I'm strong enough. Because the feelings I have for Piper have only grown over the last few weeks. They've compounded.

The way I felt about her before is nothing in comparison to how I feel now.

I've seen a side of her I didn't know existed. She's not just smart and pretty and sweet. She's also funny and witty. I've seen her dedication. I've seen her overcome her struggles. Her passion and perseverance.

But what really got me is her love for food.

We have more in common than I thought, and every day I learn something new about her. Something that makes me like her more.

A soft knock on my window startles me. When I turn, I find Piper peering through the passenger window with a smile on her face. As soon as I unlock the door, she opens it and slides in my Rover.

"I thought you were going with Alexis?"

"I was, but it's out of the way for them. They're headed back to Micah's place. Would you mind dropping me at my car since it's on the way?"

"Not at all. Are you sure you can drive?" I ask, my eyes flicking to her bandaged right hand.

"I'll be fine. I just want to get home. I'm exhausted."

Nodding, Piper buckles her seat belt and rests her head against the window as I pull onto the street. I keep my eyes focused on the road as I navigate back to the restaurant. The drive to the hospital felt like it took hours. I'd been gripping the steering wheel to keep from panicking. The drive back takes only minutes, but it's long enough for Piper to fall asleep.

When I pull up behind her car, I'm reminded of the night we kissed.

It feels like forever ago at this point.

Placing my hand on her shoulder, I'm about to wake her when she moans my name.

Moans.

There's a pleading sound in her voice. A desperation I've never heard from her before. The sultry sound sends a shot of desire straight to my dick.

I stare in fascination when I realize she's dreaming about me. Fantasizing. The way I do about her at night.

I'm torn between letting it continue and waking her up.

My tormented side gets the best of me, and I find myself backing out of the parking lot and heading to my apartment. Once I'm there, I carefully and slowly lift Piper into my arms and carry her inside. I'm opening my door when her eyes flutter open.

"Where are we?"

"My place. You fell asleep."

"Okay," is all she says, letting her eyes fall closed as she snuggles into my neck.
