"Haven't noticed. Only one girl caught my attention tonight." He brushes away the hair that's fallen in his face, giving me a glimpse of his soft, honey-brown eyes.

I feel the connection. The attraction. But I can't make it this easy for him. He's gonna have to work for it a little.

"Smooth. Does that pick-up line usually work?"

I left my hair down tonight, the long golden strands grazing my back as I turn away from him. If I maintain eye contact, I'll fall at his feet and we both know it. When I feel his hand skim up the open back of my dress, playing with the edge of the fabric, I swallow the sounds that force their way up my throat.

"I don't know. You tell me. This is my first time."

I want to laugh. There's no way this is his first time hitting on a girl. Men like him don't look like he does and not have experience.

With his thick muscles and tight abs. Strong jaw. Five o'clock shadow.

Nope.

Guys like him are the very definition of why my brother is worried about me being here tonight. If you were to look up paranoid brother in the dictionary, you'd find a picture of Max, and he'd probably be strangling... shit, I don't know his name.

"Well..." I let my voice tail off, hoping he's not so dense he doesn't pick up on what I'm asking.

"Leo."

Good. He's not an idiot. Sometimes the prettiest ones are.

"Well, Leo," I start again, glancing over my shoulder to find he's moved even close to me. I can see his shirt stretch across his broad chest as he inhales. It's fascinating, holding my attention captive. "It wasn't horrible. I've heard better, I've heard worse."

"I'm going to take that as a compliment since I wasn't trying to pick you up at all. I was stating a fact."

"Now that sounds like a line."

"Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction."

Tearing my eyes away from his chest, I look up to find Leo staring down at me. Down my shirt to be precise. Without shame. Without an ounce of regret in his smile.

"See something you like?"

"I think you know the answer to that."

Out of the corner of my eye, I spot Max walking into the room and my gut tells me to hide. If he sees me talking to Leo, he's going to cause a scene. One in which Leo could end up on the receiving end of his fist.

"Gotta go." My words are rushed as I skirt around Leo and slip down the hall. I see Piper and Alexis standing at the other end and slide up next to them, attempting to act calm, cool, and collected.

"Hey, Evie. Having fun?" Alexis asks.

She's one of my favorite people in the world. Smart. Ambitious. Real. She's not afraid to look vulnerable. And now that she and Micah are together, she's also not afraid to show her sexier side. Like tonight. Her shirt is tighter than she normally wears, cut a little lower, and the skinny jeans she's rocking, show off her amazing ass. All her assets are on display.

But it's the smile on her face that I love the most. Her happiness radiates off her in waves.

"So far."

"Who's this?" she asks, her stare focused over my shoulder.

I don't have to turn to know who's standing behind me. When his palm presses against the small of my back, my insides light on fire, and my cheeks flush.

"This is Leo."

I don't know more so I don't offer follow-up information. Thankfully, he finishes his introduction without being prompted.

"Leo Raymond. Freshmen. Soon-to-be Kappa pledge. Nice to meet you, ladies."
