"Hey," Chloe says, placing her hand on my arm to get my attention. "It's going to be fine. He loves you, and that's all that matters. After dinner, take him out on the front porch and talk. It's a great place to make life-changing decisions. Trust me."

That damn porch. Chloe can't stop talking about it. Wyatt built it for her. It was part of the future they dreamed up together and he made it come true. Their life is like a damn fairytale sometimes.

It should make me want to puke, but instead, it makes me want a fairytale of my own.

One in which Adam is excited about this new development.

Unfortunately for me, I foresee him freaking out from fear more than excitement. That was my reaction. Why wouldn't it be his?

We didn't plan for this. Our situation is different than Chloe and Wyatt's. They're planning their wedding. We aren't even thinking about marriage at this point. They've known each other for years. We've known each other for a few months.

They did this on purposeā€¦ we certainly did not.

We have a full stock of condoms. I'm on the pill. There was only one time we've been caught up in things when he forgot and he pulled out at the last second.

Not quick enough judging by the pink and white stick hiding in my purse right now.

"What if I wait a little while to tell him? Would that be so bad?"

"How long are we talking?" she asks as the waitress sets a basket in front of each of us and refills my water.

"At least until it's confirmed by a doctor," I suggest.

Running through my schedule in my head, I could make an appointment for late next week and make the trip back to Denver. I need to head to the office for a day anyway. We have a board meeting the following week, and I was going to try and wait, but the sooner I get checked out, the sooner my mind can be at ease with whatever happens.

If it's confirmed, I'll tell him when I get back.

"If that's what you want, I'll keep it a secret. I don't think waiting will change his reaction, Addy. He's going to be thrilled, I promise."

"You can't know that."

"I know a lot about Jones that you don't. He's been through more than most people and yet he's still smiling. He finds the good in everyone and everything. In every situation. Trust me, things are going to be fine."

Chloe's words remind me of the night Adam told me about Sawyer. Maybe because it had been years and he had taken the time to heal, or maybe he really does find the best in everything, but the conversation didn't end the way I thought it would that night.

"Where should we put this?"I ask, shaking the globe in my hand, covering the tiny town of Denver in snow.

Adam's eyes grow wide with surprise, and his hands start to shake.

"What's wrong?"

Moving quickly, I'm at his side, taking the hammer from him and setting it on the table. Moments of silence pass as Adam takes the globe and shakes it over and over again, staring into it as if it was magical.

"Where did you find that?" he finally asks.

"Your mom brought over a few boxes she found in the attic the other day. They had your name on them."

Nodding, he takes my hand and pulls me to the couch. Once we're seated, me in his lap, he lets out a sigh and shakes the globe once more, his eyes searching it as if looking for answers.

"Sawyer gave this to me."

I'm fairly certain my heart stopped beating in my chest the moment he mentioned her name. I knew one day he would tell me about her. I even thought I was prepared for this moment.

Nope.

Just the mention of her name has me itching to run far away. I don't know much about her or their relationship. From what I've gathered, she's gone and he's still hurting. Where she went, I have no idea. I'm not sure I really care. The damage is done and as much as he seems to be continuing to heal every day, there are still the nights he calls out for her in his sleep.

"Do you want me to throw it away?" I ask, reaching for it.
