"Hey, babe."

Adam's voice catches me off guard and I jump slightly, my hand bumping the inside of the oven, searing the knuckle on my middle finger.

"Shit. Are you okay?" he asks, rushing over to me and turning on the faucet so I can run cold water over the burn.

"Yeah. It's not that bad. I barely touched it."

Kissing me on my cheek, he holds my hand under the water until I shiver against him. Gently patting it dry with a clean dish towel, he kisses around the burn and smiles up at me.

"All better?"

Damn, he's going to make a great dad.

Shit! I'm not going to be able to keep this from him. Who am I kidding?

"Thanks, babe."

"So what's for dinner?" he asks, peeking around me.

"Lasagna, salad, garlic bread and broccoli casserole."

"Yum. I don't think I've had your lasagna yet. It smells amazing."

No, no, you haven't, I want to say. Instead, I shrug and kiss him gently on the lips, drawing his attention away from the food and back to me.

"Mmm," he moans against my mouth. "If only we were at our own house. I'd have dessert first."

"Finish my kitchen and we can make that happen." I don't bother to detach my lips from his as I speak, my words sounding muffled.

"Two weeks tops. I promise."

A deep voice clears its throat from behind Adam, and as we pull apart, Lola runs into the kitchen at top speed, latching onto Adam's leg.

"Uncle Adam!"

"Hello, princess," he says, letting go of me and bending to pick her up. "How was grandma's house?"

"Boring. Can I come to work with you tomorrow instead?"

"Sorry, Hun. You're a little too young."

Lola's always asking to go to work with Adam. He's her favorite person. It's adorable.

Just another reason he's going to be an amazing father. One of the many, I'm realizing.

As we sit down for dinner, Wyatt's telling us what happened at Old Town today. Since they opened a few months ago, there hasn't been a day where things have gone perfectly. Something is always breaking as things often did back then. Fixing the ancient machinery has proved to be a challenge, though.

In the last few weeks, he's lost a large part of his crew. People are either getting fired or quitting. Hearing about the woman who quit today gives me an idea.

"Wasn't she the one portraying the owner of the hotel?" I ask.

"Yeah, and finding someone to replace her is going to be a challenge."

"What if I told you I knew someone?"

Everyone turns their head in my direction, clearly confused.

"You know someone?" Chloe asks.
