He reaches out for her just as I step between them, grabbing his wrist and twisting.

"What the fuck, man?"

"The lady’s not interested."

"How the hell—" I twist harder, and he winces.

"I suggest you move along."

Releasing my grip, he glares at me, but does as I suggest, making his way back over to his group of friends. Standing my ground, I keep my eyes locked on them until they leave the room.

Turning to face Evie, I find her with her hands on her hips, head tilted to the side. There's a hint of humor in her stare. She's attempting to look pissed and failing miserably.

"You're welcome," I state, taking a step toward her. She matches my movement, bumping into the girl behind her, unable to avoid my advance.

I take advantage and pull her body against mine, wrapping my arms around her, holding her hostage. My fingers graze the bare skin of her thighs, and I let out a soft groan.

"You gonna kiss me now?" she asks, her words slightly muffled against my chest.

"You have no idea how bad I want that."

"What are you waiting for?"

Evie leans back, granting me access to that mouth of hers I love so much. I grip the back of her thighs, my fingers digging into her skin, as I brush my lips against her once, twice—

I'm abruptly pulled away before I can process what's happening. Seconds later, I'm against a wall, held off the ground by the man I've been trying to avoid all night.

He's yelling in my face, and I'm doing my best not to smile, to appear frightened and not defend myself. If he'd walked in five seconds earlier, he would have seen me saving her from the kind of guy he seems to think I am. From the kind of guy he wants to protect her from.

I'm not the enemy.

He can't see that through his blinding rage.

So I'm going to have to make him see.

As soon as he releases his hold on me, I let go of my fear. Catching sight of Evie over my shoulder, she gives me the slightest shake of her head, her eyes wide, but I have to go with my gut on this and stand up for myself. For her.

Max must sense the shift in my demeanor because he's back in my face before I can process my next thought.

Enter Julian. Who attempts to calm Max down and when he can't, he ushers him out the front door. I head in the opposite direction, in search of Evie, only to run into Craig instead who's giving me a knowing look.

I'm screwed.

After ten minutes of hunting, I still can't find her. When I notice Max walking back in the house and heading up the stairs, I slip out the front door ready to run to her dorm and apologize to her.

Or I won't have to. Not the way she's looking at me right now as she walks up the front steps of the house, stopping directly in front of me and winking. Or as she takes my hand in hers and pulls me down the sidewalk, away from her brother’s prying eyes.

Never saying a word.

Never asking if I want to go with her.

Knowing that I would follow her anywhere.

And it's not because she smells like peaches and cream. But because I can't imagine saying no to her when I can see the lust in her eyes. The same lust I feel coursing through my entire body as I hold her dainty hand in mine.
