The last thingI wanted to do was walk away from her.

Evie.

The most gorgeous woman I've ever seen in my life. Long blonde locks I want to run my fingers through, wrap in my hand, and tug. Kiss the curve of her neck. Trail kisses down between her breasts.

Shit. I have to stop thinking about her or I'm going to have to sneak into the bathroom and take care of myself. I'm already halfway there.

Because she let me touch her.

The smooth skin of her back was completely exposed, and I couldn't help myself. The need to touch her was overwhelming. To feel her skin beneath my fingertips. To know she was real.

Because she looked like a damn angel. White dress. Light streaming into the room from the hall behind her, illuminating her features. All that hair hanging down her back in soft waves.

I honestly thought I was dreaming when I walked into the room, and she was standing there all alone.

She watched me as I approached the same way I watched her. Without abandon.

I wanted her to know it was her I was coming for. It was her I was walking toward.

Her.

It was all about her.

When she got spooked, I followed. I didn't give it a second thought. Our conversation wasn't over. I didn't even know her name.

Her body went rigid when I introduced myself to her friend. What I was really doing was introducing myself to her. Telling her more about myself in the hope that she'd share details with me.

That backfired.

If anything, she became more closed-off before eventually telling me to leave.

Again, I didn't want to walk away from her.

That didn't stop me from finding her in a crowd. From being drawn to her the rest of the night. She knew I was watching. Every time I tried to approach, she'd counter my move, disappearing into the crowd only to reappear further away than before.

It was like a game of cat and mouse.

I was hunting her.

She was all I could focus on. All I could see.

All I wanted to see.

Not a big deal, right?

Wrong. So very wrong.

Because if I had been paying attention, I would have seen him approach. Would have felt the hostility radiating off him in waves. Seen the look on his face and would have known to run.

But nope. That wasn't my luck.

Instead, I was hauled away by the back of my shirt into the bathroom. Thrown against the wall. And Max was in my face, growling at me.

"Keep your eyes off my sister." His voice is low, deep, and his eyes are wild as he takes me in.

"Your sister?" I'm not playing dumb. I honestly have no idea who his sister is unless... Fuck. "Evie's your sister."
