"Me either." His confession surprises me.

"But you've had sex before."

"Yes. With two people. My first girlfriend and a girl I dated this past summer."

"Why didn’t you ever shower with them?" He seems to think it over for a second as he tilts his head back, soaking his hair. I'm about to retract my question when he answers.

"Neither of them were there the next morning. It was just sex. It would happen, and they would leave. That was it." I feel my mouth pop open before I can compose myself. "And this is not just sex. This is more."

He's right. This is more. Even though I didn’t give him my virginity last night, it still feels like more. There's something intimate about showering with him. With being this close to his naked body.

Leo switches places with me and kisses me deeply as he tips my head, wetting my hair. Feeling like I'm going to lose my balance, I reach out to grab on to him. My hand wraps around him and when I realize what I'm holding onto, I resist the urge to let go, instead stroking him.

"Evie," he moans into my mouth, deepening our kiss.

Paying attention to his reaction, I quickly learn what Leo likes and bring him to the brink. He pushes my hand away, takes control and releases all over my stomach, the water quickly washing it away.

"That is not why I brought you in here," he says as he squirts body gel into his hand, rubbing it across my stomach.

"It wasn't why I came in here either, but I'm not sorry it happened."

Leo's hands freeze against my skin, and when I look up at him, I find a devious smirk on his face.

"Have I turned you to the dark side?"

"If by the dark side you're referring to all the things we've done in the last twelve hours, then yes. I'm on the dark side now, and I have no intention of going back."

"I've corrupted you."

"You've healed me," I hear myself say.

And in a way, he has. My heart wasn't whole when I met Leo. It was still hurting from my father's death, no matter how hard I tried to ignore or deny it. But when I'm with him, I feel like my dad is smiling down on me. Watching me—though, hopefully not last night. Encouraging me to do what makes me happy.

And Leo makes me happy.

I hope Max can see that as well.

"Evie, can you please help Lo set the table?" My mother's dancing around the kitchen, smiling as she puts the finishing touches on dinner. Mrs. Graham, her best friend, is standing in front of the mixer, adding cream and butter to the potatoes. The two of them have been in here for hours, working silently, preparing an amazing feast for our families.

Every time I offer to help, I get kicked out of the kitchen and told to go relax.

Impossible. Everyone has someone to talk to, and I'm left wandering, attempting to avoid Max's gaze as he listens to Mr. Graham prattle on about whatever he's excited about these days. Lo is wrapped up in Finn, sitting in his lap in the chair in the corner, whispering to each other. Micah and Alexis are cuddled on the couch. She's half asleep with her head on his shoulder. And Declan's not even here today. He decided to go home with Kendall for the holidays.

I’ve walked lap after lap, through the living room and back to the kitchen. Looking for something to do, someone to talk to, other than Max. Keeping myself busy and never stopping for too long, not wanting to be trapped.

Because he knows something.

I can see it in his eyes.

He's not just watching me; he's studying my every move. I'm afraid to smile, so I keep my face void of all emotions. Even when I feel my phone vibrate in the pocket of my dress, knowing it's more than likely a text from Leo.

We met up after his meeting on Sunday night and spent a good hour memorizing each other's bodies before he dropped a bomb on me.

Word got around about Julian cooking dinner. Instead of having a small friendly gathering at his place, he's now going to be cooking at the frat house, for the entire fraternity, along with the rest of us who were already invited. Which means Leo and I are going to announce our relationship in front of his entire brotherhood.

Not how we planned.

Not what we wanted.
