Mya

I'm still flying high. The feel of his hands on my body is etched into the depth of my memory. A permanent smile plastered on my face as I ride the elevator down to the lobby of Brady's apartment building.

That smile falls when the elevator doors slide open, and a familiar face greets me. His usual smile is missing, a look of defeat in its place. Exhaustion etched in his gorgeous features. Even his shoulders are slumped forward, his hands tucked in his pockets. When he looks up and notices I'm standing in front of him, he forces a smile, but his eyes deceive him.

Something is wrong. He's hurting.

"Mya?"

"Hi, Julian. How are you?" My feet feel heavy as I exit the elevator, stepping past him as he enters.

"Doing okay. What are you—" the doors attempt to close, ending our conversation, but Julian slams his hand against one, stopping them.

"I've gotta run. It was nice to see you. We'll catch up at the party this weekend."

"But..."

His words fade as I rush toward the double doors. I can see my car parked along the curb. If I can just reach it before he stops me, I won't have to explain what I'm doing here.

Why I'm in his building this late at night.

Who I was visiting.

What I was doing with his roommate.

Why I suddenly feel like I smell of sex and shame.

Even though I'm not ashamed of anything.

I don't want to have to answer any of those questions.

Thankfully, Julian doesn't chase after me. Now I have five days to figure out what to say to him when I see him next.

Once I'm safely inside my car, I pull out my phone and shoot Brady a warning text.

ME: I ran into Julian in the lobby.

BRADY: He's walking in now.

ME: Are you planning on telling him I was there?

Do I want him to tell him? Do I care?

Yes and no.

I have no idea what's going on between us. We're friends ... sort of. We've always been friends. But now there are incredible benefits of our friendship. Benefits I don't want to stop reaping anytime soon. I'm enjoying myself.

That might be all this is, though.

I mean, he hid in the shadows at the Zeta house the other night. Maybe he wants to keep this a secret. They seem to be his thing. He knows everything about everyone, yet he doesn't say a word. He wouldn't even tell me who Max was sneaking around with. But whoever it is, she's my sister.

BRADY: Do you not want me to?

ME: What would you tell him?

BRADY: That you and I were hanging out.

ME: That's all?
