ME: I'm not sure. He went upstairs a few minutes ago. I haven't seen him since.

No sooner have I sent the text than I spy Max coming down the stairs. He's walking toward Julian, who has a new girl fawning all over him tonight. Not that he appears interested in her. He's been watching Piper like a hawk since she walked in the door.

Dude can't keep his eyes off her.

And he's not even trying to be subtle about it.

I've known he's had a thing for her for years—again, he's not exactly subtle—but he's never acted on it. This year, though, things are different. It's like a switch has been flipped, and he can't control himself.

Colt pulls Max aside, whispers something in his ear, and then Max bolts back upstairs. I smile to myself until my phone vibrates in my hand.

MAX: I'm in Colt's room.

MAX: Find Julian now. Tell him I'm being hunted by a Zeta. Her name is Mya. He needs to get her to leave or I'm going to have to live in here, and it smells like ass. This isn't how I want to die.

MAX: Did you find him.

This is going to be epic. I can already see it playing out in my head. Max cowering as Mya beats him down with accusations. When it comes to confrontation, Max will stand up to any guy who tries to push him around, but if it's a woman, he'll stand there and take whatever verbal lashing they intend to hand out.

Setting my untouched cup of beer aside, I make my way across the room to where Julian is. "Max needs your help. Something about one of the Zetas. I don't know. He asked me to come find you."

"He can handle it himself." He doesn't even bother to look away from where Piper is standing alone out on the deck when he replies.

"I don't think he can. I've never seen Max terrified of a woman before."

"What?"

That got his attention. Holding up my phone, I show him the text messages Max just sent.

"He's hiding in Colt's room right now. She's on the prowl, and he needs you to find her and get her to leave."

"Mya is the sweetest girl I know. Whatever Max did, he probably deserves her wrath. Which might equate to some harsh words and a slap on the cheek."

I agree with him, but the thought of Mya slapping Max across the cheek turns me on. So I really want to see how this plays out. And I also want a glimpse of those gorgeous blue eyes I've been dreaming about.

My phone vibrates in my hand, and I look down at another message from Max.

MAX: Did you find him?

Ah, the desperation. I love it. It brings a smile to my face and joy to my heart. This is going to be so much fun. And I know just how to get the wheels spinning a little faster when I spot Mya over Julian's shoulder, headed our direction.

"Then find her so he stops texting me about this shit. You know how much I hate frat drama. There's a reason I didn't join."

As soon as I turn around, I shoot Max a text that it's all clear to come back down. That Julian has the situation under control. I only hope he buys it.
