Glancing to my left, I find him standing with Kane, Finn, and Julian. All of them are wearing basketball shorts even though it can’t be more than forty degrees out tonight. Everyone except Kane looks like they came straight from working out, a sheen of sweat still beading Julian’s brow.

That guy works out harder than anyone I know. Of course, if I had a baseball scholarship to keep, I would too.

Finn is just massive. In size and strength.

And Max, well, even if he wasn’t tall and strong, he would be intimidating. It’s the serious look he sports ninety percent of the time. The guy needs to relax a little, laugh more.

“Who let this guy in?” I ask, nudging my chin in Finn’s direction as I hop off the stage to join my friends. “I thought you said you were inviting the brothers and last I checked, he refused to join our merry band.”

“True, but he’s my brother. Has been for years, so he gets a free pass,” Max replies, slinging his arm over Finn’s shoulder.

“Merry band of brothers?” Finn asks, lifting his brow.

“Do you have a better way to describe the irony of a bunch of straight guys living together?”

“Nope, and not even gonna try.”

“I do.” The voice startles me slightly but I don’t let it show. Casually looking over my shoulder, I find Brady standing only a few feet away from me.

“Where the hell have you been?” Finn asks as Brady joins the circle we’ve formed.

“I had shit to do.”

“What’s her name?” Kane doesn’t even bother to look up from his cell phone as he asks. The guy is probably scrambling jets or some shit right now. It’s never as simple as sending a text or browsing the internet when his phone is in his hand. My roommate is tech savvy.

I lost my phone the first week of classes. After an entire day of searching everywhere, retracing my steps, he offered to locate it for me. It took him all of two minutes to pinpoint the location, which happened to be in our room. In the pocket of the jeans I had been wearing that day. Which were at the bottom of my laundry basket.

Asshole still teases me about it.

I got him back the next day, though. We were deep in conversation, walking back from class, when he zoned out. I followed his line of sight and realized what had caught his attention. Or rather who. He swore me to secrecy and has been wearing sunglasses ever since. Even in our room. I think he’s taking things a little too far, but he refuses to take them off.

“Your mom,” Brady counters, everyone chuckling at his joke as Nash taps me on the shoulder.

“Gotta go, guys. See you after.”

“Beers at the house. Matt said he was buying,” Max calls after me.

That’s because Matt is vying for president next year, and he thinks getting the underage pledges drunk will secure him the position. What he doesn’t realize is he’s a douche, and everyone can see it. Hell, I don’t want the job, but I could do it better than him. He’ll find a way to destroy the Kappa reputation if given the opportunity.

As I take my place in front of the microphone, my eyes fall to the Zetas again as they approach the front of the stage.

That’s when I see her.

She’s not a Zeta. At least, I’m pretty sure she’s not since I haven’t seen her around before. Her sandy brown hair is pulled in a high ponytail on the top of her head. Her white puffy coat hides the figure her skin-tight jeans and brown knee-high boots more than likely accentuate. She’s very petite. At least a foot shorter than me.

And she’s walking this way.

Her eyes are devouring me. Taking me in. I can feel her perusal as she works her way down the length of my body and back up again.

And I like the fire it stokes inside me.

My skin heats beneath her stare, warding off the chill of the wind.

I force myself to look away when the first strum of Ace’s guitar penetrates the air. Closing my eyes, I bring the microphone to my mouth and channel everything I’m feeling into the music, letting it consume me the way it always does.

But when I open my eyes again, she’s there. Watching. Her lips slightly parted. Hips shaking.

And I can’t bring myself to look away again.
