Colt

She didn’t answerme last night.

Or this morning.

I know why she ran; I just want to know if she realizes it yet. Her feelings for me scare her. They’ve always scared her. The way mine for her have always frightened me.

To the point that I made stupid decisions.

Like flirting with other girls in front of her to get her attention.

Didn’t work.

Or writing songs about her constantly that I haven’t shared with the rest of the band because I’ll never sing them.

Or maybe…

ME: I wanna add a song to our set. A new one. Do you guys have time to run through it today?

NASH: Really? We just added one.

Yes, a song he wrote. Which is amazing, and we will add it to our regular set, but I need this.

ME: Scratch that one. This one is better. Promise.

ACE: I have no plans today. What time?

NASH: No. I want to put it to a vote. We’ve already put time and effort into a different song. Unless you have a compelling reason to change things up the day before the gig, I don’t think we should have to change the set.

ACE: Do you have a good reason, Colt?

Screw it. If I want them to agree, I’m going to have to give them something. A little insight. Or they’re going to side together, and we’ll stick to the agreed upon set list.

ME: Her name is Scarlet. The song is about the first time we met. She’s going to be there tomorrow night.

NASH: And?

ME: And what? That’s not good enough? If you came to me wanting to impress a girl you liked, you know I’d help you out.

ACE: He has a point @Nash.

NASH: I know he has a point. I think we deserve more. There’s something he’s not telling us. This isn’t just about some girl. He’s trying to win her over with a song @Ace. There’s more to the story.

ME: Are you seriously asking me for details? Like a little gossip?

NASH: And you’re going to give them, or you won’t get your song added.

No, I’m not.

ME: I’ll make you a deal. Read the song, then decide. Those are all the details I’m giving you.

It takes me a few minutes, but I attach the file with the lyrics to the text thread. Neither of them responds right away. And I’m not surprised when Ace is the first to reply.

ACE: Sorry, Nash, but I have a feeling this song is going to melt the hearts of more than just one girl. I vote we add it to the set.

NASH: Fine.

ME: Thank you. Be here at 5? Does that work for everyone?
