On the fourth song, our eyes connect, and I’m in an entirely different kind of trance. One I don’t want out of.
“This next song,” Colt starts, his eyes still fixated on me, “is a new one. I wrote it myself for someone special in my life.”
The crowd starts looking around, following Colt’s stare. To avoid giving myself away, I look around too. That’s when I hear Colt laugh directly into the microphone, drawing everyone’s attention back to the stage as the first note leaves his mouth.
In the shadows
My lips met yours
The fire was lit
My desire was born
Oh. My. God.
He’s singing about the night we met. In front of everyone.
To me!
He’s staring straight at me.
Belting out his feelings.
About what he felt. About how he still feels.

And I can’t look away.
I can feel eyes on me. People glancing in my direction as he continues to sing. I can’t look away, the depth of his voice reaching out, wrapping around me, and holding me captive.

“This is so good,” I hear Gia say from beside me, breaking me out of the trance the song has held me in, but I’m too stunned to reply.
Averting my eyes from Colt’s, I glance toward the exit, the urge to run overwhelming me.
There’s no way I can talk to him now.
Yes, I feel the same way he does, but I’m not sure I’m ready for anyone else to know. Not even him.
My eyes lock with Brady’s as Colt’s voice softens, the chorus repeating itself again, breaking me. My heart is thundering in my chest, the sound echoing in my ears making me wonder if anyone else can hear it too.
Turning before the last note has left his lips, I dart down the hall, stopping halfway to catch my breath. When I hear Colt announce they’re taking a short break, I panic. I need to get out of here.
Heading for the front door, I hear footsteps pounding against the hardwood somewhere behind me and getting closer. As the front stairs come into sight, I divert, taking them as fast as I can in these heels.
