Scarlet

It’s been three weeks.

Three very intense, incredibly mind-blowing, weeks.

I’m not even sure how I’m walking right now.

Colt is insatiable. If he’s not sneaking into the Zeta house, he’s stealing me away on campus. We’ve almost gotten caught in the act twice. Once in an empty classroom and yesterday in the girl’s bathroom.

Not that I would ever tell him no.

He says we’re making up for lost time. For every day we wasted apart since we were both idiots and never made a move.

I think he’s just a horny man who enjoys having sex.

“Remember what you said that first night?” I ask as I pull my jeans up over my hips.

“If it was after you put your mouth on my cock, probably not.” There’s a devilish smirk on his face, one I’ve come to love. It’s the same look he gives right before he ravishes me.

“It was before, caveman.” He loves the nickname I’ve given him, probably because it fits him perfectly. Especially when he doesn’t pull his hair back, like today. It’s longer than mine, falling over his shoulder in soft waves. Am I jealous of his volume? Maybe a little. “When you said the first time wouldn’t be amazing because you didn’t know what I liked.”

“Are you trying to get me to admit I was wrong? If that’s the case, I’ll happily admit I was wrong about that.” Smacking him on the chest, he snatches my wrist and pulls me close. “Do I need to prove to you how right I can be?”

“You’re ridiculous, and we have things to do,” I remind him.

The plans for the gala are coming along nicely. Ticket sales are the best I’ve seen for any of our events in years. We reviewed the menu for dinner before we got sidetracked—aka, before Colt started kissing me which led to the loss of my pants and a quickie in the storage closet—and all that’s left is to decide on decorations.

Which just so happens to be the one aspect of the gala that Cleo wants to be a part of.

Hooray!

I mean, it’s not like she’s been exasperating since break ended. Or standoffish toward everyone. After Gia put her foot down about the Max situation, things around the house have been increasingly tense. And Cleo’s mood hasn’t made it any easier.

Who wouldn’t love to spend the afternoon shopping with Cleo?

Me. I don’t want to spend time alone with her. Which is why I made Colt promise to go with me.

“Are you really going to make me go shopping with you?”

“Are you really going to make me go alone? You know Cleo’s been exceptionally cranky lately. You wouldn’t want me to have to listen to her all afternoon, would you?”

Colt has tried to get me to talk about the situation, but Gia swore us all to secrecy. And I respect that. The thing is, as soon as Cleo gets me alone, she’s going to want to talk about it. And I can’t do that without breaking my vow to my best friend. A vow that I broke once, and she still hasn’t forgiven me.

“Fine but you owe me,” he says, pressing his lips to mine as I button my jeans, grazing the front of his pants in the process, a silent promise to make the afternoon worthwhile for him.

“There you are!I was getting worried—” Cleo’s words fall away when she spots Colt walking in behind me. “I didn’t realize Colt was shopping with us. I figured he wouldn’t want to come.”

“If the Kappa’s have to help with the gala, I want to make sure we get our say on everything, including the decorations. Can’t have you making it too girly.” He gives her a genuine smile, but I bet Cleo sees straight through his lies.

When she turns to me, a lift in her brow, my thoughts are confirmed.

“Well, let’s get started, shall we.” Cleo motions for us to follow her.

We browse three different stores, gathering ideas, planning centerpieces and table displays, and pricing out the cost of everything. Four hours later, we’re headed to a coffee shop to make our final decisions.

Well, Cleo and I are headed to the coffee shop. Colt is playing a gig tonight. We didn’t think it would take this long to look at decorations. I mean, it’s flowers and balloons, crepe paper and candles. How long should it really have taken us?

“Where’s Colt?” Cleo asks as I slide in line beside her.
