That’s about the same time I realize she’s my ride. Colt dropped me off on his way downtown. There wasn’t enough time to take me back to campus to get my car.

“Hey,” I say as I walk over to where Gia and Max are waiting to order. “My ride just left me. Think you guys can take me back to campus?”

Max nods but doesn’t make eye contact. The shiner he had after New Year’s Eve has faded. The only indication that he had a black eye is a tiny yellow bruise on his cheekbone.

“Thanks again,” I state as I climb in the back of Max’s flashy sports car. It suits him perfectly.

“No problem.” It’s Gia who answers as Max grunts.

“What are you two doing out and about today?” I attempt to make conversation as he steers us through traffic.

“Not much. Just wanted a coffee to warm up,” Gia says, her voice falling flat as Max pulls up to a stoplight. “What were you and Cleo doing?”

“Gala planning. Colt was with us, but he had to go get ready for a gig tonight. Are you two going?”

Gia looks over to Max who’s only response is another grunt, this one sounding even less enthusiastic than the last.

“I’ll take that as a no,” I mutter to no one in particular.

“Is it at the dive bar he hates?” Max asks after a few minutes of uncomfortable silence.

“Yeah. The owner of BJ’s has asked them to take over the Thursday night slot, and he was outvoted or something.”

Max grumbles under his breath before sharing a look with Gia. She places her hand on top of his on the stick shift, and he threads their fingers together.

“Yeah, we’ll be there. What time does it start?” Gia asks. She sounds sad and broken. I want to get to the bottom of why, but I can’t ask her right now considering I have a feeling Max is the reason.

I wish she’d talk to me, be honest about what’s really going on. Why she’s dating him. What the hell she’s getting out of it because from what I can tell, neither of them are gaining anything.

“Ten sharp. He warned me the place is pretty gross and to wear shoes I don’t care about.”

Gia groans, and Max lets out a deep rumble.

“That’s an understatement. Don’t sit down. Don’t use the bathroom. And if we manage to snag a table, make sure you have disinfectant wipes in your purse. The place smells awful. I’m surprised they haven’t been shut down by the health department.”

“Why would Colt agree to play there if it’s that bad?” I ask Max.

“You said it yourself—he was outvoted. He thinks the only way to keep things fair is to make everyone’s vote count equally. Nash and Ace are in it for the money. They only care about the paycheck. BJ’s pays better than some of the other bars. Hazard pay, in my opinion. Still, they draw a decent crowd. I have no idea how since I can’t stand to be in there for more than five minutes.”

I was excited to watch Colt perform tonight. When he’s on stage, in his element, he has this look on his face that’s hard to explain. He’s happy. Vibrating.

Sexy.

And I love the way his voice wraps around me; the dirty things it does to me. Probably because he likes to whisper naughty promises in my ear when he’s inside me. Thrusting. Going deeper and deeper.

Shit!

My panties are wet.

This is all Colt’s fault.

He’s turned me into a sex-crazed woman. I can’t go one afternoon without thinking about having sex with him. Remembering how he feels. Turning myself on with thoughts of new ideas I want to try next time we’re together.

And right now is not the time to be turned on. Not with Gia and Max sitting only a few feet in front of me and Colt nowhere in sight.
