Or rather, I didn’t think he knew I existed.

Until this very moment. When his lips met mine for the second time after barely saying a word to me. No words are needed to clarify he’s aware of who I am.

Slowly pulling away, Colt rests his forehead against mine. His eyes are still closed when I find the strength to open mine. Minutes pass in comfortable silence as I stare at Colt, waiting for him to give me a peek at the beautiful blues I know he’s hiding beneath his long lashes, as I attempt to catch my breath.

When he finally grants me my wish, my entire body shudders.

“I’m sorry,” he says as he takes a step back, his hand untangling from my hair, sliding down my arm and landing on my hip.

What do I even say to that?

No big deal. I enjoyed it.

I think it’s better to remain silent, so I don’t say something stupid. Not that he gives me the chance to respond at all before pressing his lips to mine again. This time with more urgency. Less grace.

His grip on my hip tightening.

And when he nudges my knees apart with his thigh, I spread them willingly. Allowing him to stand between my legs. To press his body closer to mine.

When he suddenly pulls my body forward and presses my core against the bulge in his jeans, I moan into his mouth and lose all self-control, gripping the collar of his shirt and clawing at him to erase the breath of space between us.

Breaking our kiss so he can pull his shirt over his head, Colt whispers my name as he peppers kisses along my jaw.

“Colt, we need—”

“I know exactly what you need, Scarlet.” Colt stares down at me, his eyes filled with lust. “I can’t give that to you here. Where anyone could walk in on us. But I will make sure you’re taken care of.”

Oh, God. He wants to—

“No. We need to stop.” My words are rushed and uncertain. I honestly can’t believe I was strong enough to say them with the adrenaline coursing through my body right now.

The last thing I want to do is stop kissing him.
