Rhett set me back on my feet, breaking the kiss, but placed his forehead against mine. “I love you,” he whispered.

“I love you too.”

Little hands grabbed at my leg. I scooped Brendan up, and his hands went to my cheeks.

“Mama sad?” he asked.

“No buddy. I’m so, so, so happy.”

Rhett pulled us both into an embrace. A minute later, we broke apart when a throat clearing made it apparent the rest of the family were waiting for hugs and handshakes.

Miranda and Ashley snatched me first into a joint hug. Both started talking a mile a minute about wedding planning and dress shopping. The only thing I cared about was getting married at The Dock and marrying the love of my life. Everything else was minor details.

“Bella Bug,” my dad said as he approached and then wrapped me in a hug. “Really happy for you.”

My eyes filled with tears again as I whispered, “You okay with me wearing Mom’s rings?”

“Of course.” He pulled back and looked down at me. “It’s why I kept them. I knew you wanted them one day. She would want you to have them.”

I nodded. “Wait, how did Rhett get these? Did you bring them?”

He chuckled. “No. He came to see me the other day. Gave me a long speech and asked for my blessing.”

I smiled. “Thank you.”

By the time Rhett and I finished making our rounds, I was not only exhausted, but overwhelmed. Rhett had always been able to read me, even when I tried hard to put up a front, so it didn’t surprise me when he came up to me and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, leaning down to whisper in my ear.

“You ready to go home? Put Brendan to bed and celebrate our engagement?” A shiver ran through me as his lips brushed against my ear.

My cheeks heated. “Mm-hmm,” I mumbled as his lips trailed down my neck and around to my jaw.

“Let’s go say our goodbyes then.”

We made one last loop, accepting more congratulations and hugs before we were finally on our way home.

Home. Our home. I glanced back at Brendan in the back seat, kicking his feet and singing. Rhett reached for my hand and brought it to his mouth, brushing his lips against my knuckles.

I couldn’t wait to marry this man. Grow our family. And be together—forever.

“I think we should get married in September.” I bit my lip and waited for a response. It was super quick, I knew that. Less than three months away.

“Sounds perfect.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. I’d marry you tomorrow if you wanted me to. As long as I get to watch you walk down the aisle and sayI do, I’m good.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. That may have been the only decision I had ever seen him make or agree with so quickly.

He smiled at me and shrugged like he could read my thoughts.

I guess there were just some things in life you didn’t need to think about.
