Now, I don’t see signs of anyone.

I hate to shift back into human form out here, but uneasiness weighs on me. I spit out the strap of the canvas bag I took from Callie and then shift. I brought my clothes and the phone I took off of Zeke just in case.

Dominic answers before the first ring has even finished. “Every time you call, you upset my mate.” His voice is low but candid, so I guess Tess isn’t there listening in.

“Tasha is gone.”

The Alpha lets out a growl that makes my own wolf bristle. What right does he have to get so worked up over my mate? She’s mine. Mine to worry about. Mine to bring home.

I shake it off. We’re on the same damn team right now.

“I’m trying to get eyes on her. I think one of my brothers dropped her off to the Luna Sovereign house. Any idea why security is nonexistent?”

“That can’t be right.” No shit. “I’ll send my own team out until I talk to Waverly. There’s no reason to leave that house unprotected even if Tasha isn’t in it. Are you sure she’s there? Why wasn’t she with you?”

“It’s a long fucking story. Don’t worry, it won’t happen again.”

He hesitates, something I’m sure he isn’t used to doing. “That won’t be good enough of an explanation for Tess. I’ve heard all about where you come from, Glass. I did my own digging after you showed up at my training grounds. But the Jarreaus aren’t like that. All they had was each other.”

I hear what he’s saying. They didn’t run from each other as fast as they could the second they got a taste of freedom.

They way my siblings and I all did.

“My sister showed up and scared her, talking about rogues coming for us. She just got scared is all.” I actually have no idea what the hell she was thinking running from me, but it’s the best guess I’ve got.

Mark her, and she’ll never run again.

“I need the two of you to pick a place and stick to it. The more you play musical chairs, the harder it makes it for me to help. I’m already using a lot of manpower trying to figure out where the hell their brother is. So could you do me a favor and stay put for more than a day this time?”

“It won’t be a problem.” This time I’m going to make sure she can’t run. Not ever again.

If Tasha really doesn’t want me, she’ll just have to get the hell over it.

“You’ll send your pack? And speak with Alpha Waverly?” That was the reason for my call in the first place, so I bring us back around to what I need. “I’ll make sure we stay in one place this time. We can start helping to look for Tevin. I have friends who might be able to help.”

“Trustworthy friends?”

Some of them. “Yes.”

He lets out a long sigh that tells me exactly how pissed off he is not to feel in control right now. Get in line, buddy.

“Fine. Try to help without putting my mate’s sister in any more danger though, will you? If anything happens to Tasha—“

“It won’t.” I cut him off and kill the call. I don’t want to think about the possibility of anything happening to her. Hell, I haven’t even gotten close enough yet to confirm that she’s really here and safe.

That’s not true. I know she’s here, just ahead through the clearing behind the walls of the Luna Sovereign house. I can feel it with every fiber of my being.

Just like I can feel myself being watched.

I drop the phone and shift. I’m not getting caught off guard in human form. Not out here when my mate is unprotected only a few dozen yards away. The second my wolf rises to the surface, I swivel my head in either direction. I can feel eyes, but I can’t see them.

I release a low growl of frustration. Even Dominic wouldn’t be able to get anyone from his pack here this fast.

With my luck, another Glass sibling is about to pop out of the woodwork.

Except no one shows themselves. Whoever—or whatever—is watching doesn’t want a grand reveal. I’m not sure what that means for us, but I’m not going to wait out here all night trying to find out. We’ve already been separated for almost a full day; I’m ready to spend tonight with my mate.
