I smack him. “Ew. Gross.”

He grasps my hand and leads me to the hallway where he stops to pick up his packed suitcase. I guess he wasn’t kidding about getting on the road immediately. We’re quiet as we walk out of the inn to his jeep.

He stows his luggage in the trunk before his hands circle my waist and he maneuvers me until I’m backed up against his vehicle with him looming over me.

“I’ll miss you, Ellie.”

His mouth slams down on mine, and I don’t hesitate to open. His tongue invades and mine immediately rushes to greet his. While our tongues duel, I clutch his shirt and pull him close until our bodies are pressed against each other. All too soon he slows the kiss until he can pull away.

“I’ll be in touch,” he says as he opens the driver’s door and settles in. I remain silent as he switches on the engine and drives away.

I stand there until his rear lights disappear in the distance. Once he’s truly gone, I rub my chest at the ache blooming there. Dang it. My heart got involved after a mere two days. Stupid heart. This is why I don’t get involved with out-of-towners. They always leave, and I never will.
