I pick out a few pairs of pants and some blouses to try on and make my way to the dressing rooms. I hang up the clothes and begin removing my pants. I squeal and try to cover myself when the door opens behind me.

“It’s me,” Cole says as he sits on the chair in the corner of the room. “Let’s see what you’ve got.”

“You can’t be in here,” I hiss.

“No one’s going to know. There aren’t any cameras in here.”

“I do know,” someone shouts from outside, “but you’re fine in there as long as there’s no hanky-panky.”

Cole grins up at me. “Told you.”

“Maybe I don’t want you seeing me naked.”

“Ellie girl, that ship has sailed.”

“Whatever.” I whirl around to try on my pants without looking at his stupid, gorgeous face.

“These pants are great. How do they feel? Is there room for baby to grow in them?”

I drop my chin to my chest. Great. It’s not bad enough he’s in here with me, he’s also going to comment on all my clothes?

“They’re fine.”

And so it goes. I try on an item and Cole comments because keeping his mouth shut is apparently impossible.

“I’m done,” I claim after I’ve tried on the last blouse.

He frowns. “You only have two pairs of pants and two blouses in the yes pile.”

I shrug. “I don’t need any more.”

“Okay.” He stands. “Get dressed. We’ll grab some lunch before we head home.”

Home? Winter Falls isn’t his home. Before I have a chance to correct him, he’s strolling out of the dressing room with all the clothes in his hands.

When I exit a few minutes later, Cole’s already at the cash register. He lifts up a bag and smiles when he notices me. “We’re all set.”

“I told you I was going to pay for the clothes. They’re my clothes after all.”

“I was already cashing out since I needed to pay for a few other items.”

I narrow my eyes on him. “What other items?”

He claims my hand and directs me out of the store. “Did you want to eat at the hamburger joint we passed on the way here? Ashlyn claims the burgers there are to die for.”

“Are you going to answer my question?”

“No.”

“No?” I screech.

“My answer will make you mad, so no.”

“I’m already mad,” I growl. The man is infuriating.

He sighs. “Hop in the jeep and I’ll fill you in on the way to lunch.”

Once we’re on our way, I ask again, “What other items?”
