“Fine, but I’m not drinking alone.”

“Not it,” Aspen, Ashlyn, and Ellery shout at once.

“I’ll drink with you,” Gabrielle offers.

“But you don’t enjoy the taste of alcohol.”

I distinctly remember her saying as much when I ate dinner with them at Beckett’s house. Beckett. Damn. Everything I think or do seems to remind him of me. Of course, his sisters coming to comfort me doesn’t help.

She shrugs. “I could use a bit of cheer in my life.”

“What’s going on?” Cassandra demands of Gabrielle.

Elizabeth shoves her older sister. “Leave her alone. If she doesn’t want to talk about it, you’re not going to make her.”

Ashlyn rubs her hands together. “And here I was worried we’d be out of the matchmaking business once Lilac is settled.”

Gabrielle bristles. “I didn’t say anything about a man.”

Ashlyn snorts. “Please, if it’s not about a man, I’ll eat my shirt.”

Gabrielle blushes and ducks her chin to hide her face behind her hair.

Elizabeth gasps. “What man is this? What happened?”

Gabrielle shakes her head and shrinks into herself as if she can make herself invisible.

Aspen claps her hands to gain everyone’s attention. “One crisis at a time.”

“I’m not in crisis,” I claim with my attention focused on Gabrielle. I’m more worried about her than myself at the moment.

Aspen fists her hands at her hips. “You haven’t been to work in three days and when we arrived, you hadn’t showered.”

“You can’t refute her evidence,” Juniper agrees.

“What happened, Lilac? When we had dinner with you last week at Beckett’s house, you were both happy and in love.” Elizabeth’s eyes widen when she realizes what she said. “I mean, I’m not saying you are in love, but you looked it.”

“Oh, Beckett’s house. What’s it like? Is it big? Expensive?” Ashlyn rubs her hands together. “I want all the deets.”

Cassandra throws her arm around her shoulders. “I’ll tell you all about it later.”

“Come on, Lilac,” Aspen pleads. “Tell us what happened with Beckett, and I’ll run over to Electric Vibes and have Lennon make us a couple of pitchers of strawberry margaritas.”

“And I’ll run over to Rowan’s bakery and grab everything he has in vanilla flavor,” Ashlyn adds. I didn’t realize my sister knew I prefer vanilla over chocolate. What other things does she know about me?

“And I’ll grab a bunch of movies for us to watch. Some of which have not yet been released,” Juniper offers.

“I can bring Honey over for you to play with,” Ellery says after a pause.

Cassandra lifts a bag from the floor. “And I already brought you my homemade salsa and chips.”

Elizabeth elbows her. “I’m the one who made the salsa.”

Cassandra shrugs. “I bought the ingredients.”

I scan their faces and debate lying to them.

Aspen wags her finger at me. “Nope. No lying.”
