He frowns. “Why? I’m not letting you go home tonight.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Letting?”

“Don’t worry. You’ll be blinded with passion and won’t mind a bit.”

I don’t bother contradicting his assertion since he’s probably right. “I’ll need a new set of clothes in the morning.”

“Good thing you keep an extra set in your trunk in case of emergency, then, isn’t it?”

I frown. “This isn’t technically an emergency.”

He glances behind him before stepping close and whispering to me, “When I tease you until you’re begging me to come, you’ll change your mind.”

My breath catches in my throat. I’ve never enjoyed a lover teasing me before. Probably because I never allowed myself to truly let go the way I have with Beckett.

“I’ll use the emergency clothes in my trunk,” I pant.

He winks. “Thought you would.”

He relieves me of my laptop bag before indicating the hallway. “After you, milady.”

“I’m not an English noblewoman.”

“But you’re my queen,” he claims as we exit the office.

After a brief debate, which he wins because saving energy is one of the purposes of my life, after all, we travel together in his car to his house. It’s a ten-minute drive before we’re pulling into the driveaway of a modern house. I notice the roof appears to be reflective.

“Are those solar panels?”

“Naturally. Although I also have a geothermal heating and cooling system, solar panels are essential for a net zero energy home.”

Net zero energy home. I’m intrigued. I fling my door open. “What are you waiting for? I want the tour.”

He chuckles as he meets me at the front of the car. “I’ll give you the tour, but it’s not very interesting. The house looks and feels the same as a normal home.”

“Except it doesn’t use any energy.”

“It uses energy, but I produce more energy with the solar panels and geothermal HVAC than I use.”

“Naturally. I would expect it to produce extra energy with both solar panels and a geothermal system,” I say as I follow him toward the door.

“I use some of the excess to power my car and sell the rest to the local energy company,” he says as he opens the door using a finger scanner.

“You have a biometric lock?”

“Yes, it’s part of my home security. Don’t worry. I can have my security guy come out and have your fingerprint added to the system.”

I pause in the entryway. “What do you mean? Have my fingerprint added?”

“So you can enter the house. The code to enter doesn’t work without fingerprint identification.”

“I am aware of how biometric locking mechanisms work. What I don’t understand is why you would add my fingerprint.”

“I guess we’re doing this now,” he mumbles before leading me away from the doorway and into the living room.

The living room, kitchen, and dining area are an open concept with the entire back wall of the space covered in floor to ceiling windows. I ignore the furnishings and walk to the windows where I can see for miles since the view is unimpeded by other houses.

“How large is the property your house sits on?”
