“Such as?”

“Something I’ve been dying to do since the day I met you.”

He gathers my hair in his fist and jerks my head back until my neck is exposed. He nibbles and bites his way along it until he reaches my jaw. I try to move so I can kiss him, but I’m immobilized by his hold on me. I’m surprised to find myself excited by the notion of being restrained.

“I’ve got you right where I want you,” he whispers in my ear before swirling circles with his tongue around the skin behind my ear. My knees weaken and I grab hold of the lapels of his jacket before I fall. He smirks before nipping my bottom lip.

“Why are all—” Cassandra cuts herself off. “Oops. We’ll come back later.”

“Why are we coming back later?” Elizabeth asks. “You promised me dinner.”

Beckett releases his hold on my hair and tucks me under his arm in time for me to see Elizabeth enter the dining room. Her eyes widen. “Oh.”

“Why is everyone crowding the entryway?” Gabrielle asks as she pushes past her sisters. She waves at me. “Hi, Lilac. I didn’t realize you were joining us for dinner.”

“I didn’t realize they were joining me for dinner,” Beckett grumbles before kissing my hair and releasing me. “What does everyone want to eat?” he asks as he strides toward the kitchen.

When I don’t immediately follow him, he urges me forward. “Come on, Lilac. You don’t want to keep my sisters waiting for food.”

Cassandra shoves him. “Don’t make us sound bad.”

“Too late. Lilac’s family now. She’ll figure out what pigs you are soon enough.”

Family now? He says the words as if they’re not significant. But they are significant. He’s the first person outside of my biological family to accept me for who I am. I need to tell him I love him. He said he loved me just as I am before, and I’m beginning to realize he means it.
