She bursts out laughing, covering her mouth quickly before her food comes shooting out. I chuckle at her reaction before taking a sip of my coffee, moaning as the smooth liquid moves over my tongue.

A dark-haired man approaches us out of my periphery, coming up beside Kali. He pulls out a chair, taking a seat beside her. His light skin contrasts his midnight black hair, he’s attractive, but definitely not Adrian level. He glances over, watching her frantically wipe her mouth with her napkin. Kali quickly places her napkin down and gestures to the man.

“Olivia, this is Domenic. Domenic, this is Olivia,” she introduces us before checking her face in her phone to make sure the sauce didn’t smear on her face.

“Nice to meet you. Please call me Liv.” I wave, fork still in hand, not wanting to drop it for any reason. Sorry, not sorry.

“The pleasure is all mine, Liv,” he replies, eyes languidly scanning me up and down before taking a bite of his own breakfast.

“Liv just got here yesterday, and she unfortunately already met Katrina.” Kali corrects, using my nickname instead. Domenic cringes, his eyes meeting mine with a sympathetic smile.

“How did that go?” he asks sarcastically, obviously having some idea of the outcome.

“It was going pretty well actually until her lies came out in the most epic way possible.” She recounts the events of yesterday, sparing no detail. We all laugh when she gets to the epic measuring tape lasso incident.

“Everyone knew she had to be lying about the god of illusion, but no one had the balls to call her out on it.” He eyes me appreciatively, taking a sip from his run-of-the-mill drip coffee.

“You’re always the person having the most fun.” A deep voice comes from behind me, hand coming to rest on my shoulder. I find myself relaxing into the increasingly familiar touch. Kali and Domenic’s eyes widen at the sight of Adrian behind me. Their hands pausing in midair, momentarily forgetting the food piled there as their mouths gape in shock.

“Too bad you still haven’t proved yourself enough to secure an invite,” I quip, glancing up at him. He gives me a mischievous smirk and lowers his head. Placing a chaste kiss to the top of my head before lowering his lips to my ear. A rush of air escaping his mouth, teasing and caressing my skin.

“I think I have carpal tunnel from last night,” he whispers in my ear, chuckling as he backs away. The unexpected reference to my explicit text last night causes me to choke as I try to laugh while taking a sip of my coffee.

I will the liquid down my throat, roughly gulping. Refusing to be the girl that had hot coffee spurting from her nose on the first day. My coughing draws the attention of the tables around us, staring at the commotion I’m causing. Sorry everyone, next time I almost die from drinking coffee, I’ll try to do so quietly.

Once I compose myself—breathing air once again instead of coffee—I notice him glancing towards the chair beside me. I move my bag from the seat, placing it behind me and scoot forward on my chair. The movement causes my skirt to shift up, drawing Adrian’s eye to the swath of bare skin as he lounges in the seat I cleared.

My grin turns mischievous as I meet his gaze, not moving my skirt back down just to torture him. He groans and rolls his head, forcing himself to focus on Kali and Domenic. The two are still staring at us wide-eyed.

That’s when I notice more than a few groups have turned to gawk at us once they noticed our new guest. Ignoring them, I turn my attention back to our group as Adrian introduces himself to Domenic, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. His hand slides up my leg coming to rest on my still exposed thigh, gripping the sensitive flesh there possessively.

“I came over to say good morning and to make sure you got everything.” He smiles, his attention turning back to me.

“Thank you.” My eyes soften and I hold his gaze, wishing we were alone so I could thank him properly.

“I have to admit, that color looks amazing on you.” His signature sly grin creeps onto his face and his eyes go directly to my lips, noticing the deep red lipstick. I smirk, teasing him, as I see his eyes follow my lips.

“I have to go back to the mortal realm today. I’ll have my phone, though, so call me if you need anything.” Adrian’s expression sobers as he looks at me before quickly morphing to mischievous, as his hand trails up my thigh, fingers caressing the sensitive skin along the inside. He stops just short of where I ache for him to touch. I let out a tiny squeal, but remembering we have an audience, I lamely attempt to mask the noise by taking a sip of my coffee.

“Have a great day.” He presses a kiss to my hair, giving a slight wave to our table before making his way to the exit of the dining hall. I look down, heat creeping to my cheeks as I feel both Kali and Domenic’s wide-eyed stares on me. Again, I attempt to hide my embarrassment by sipping my coffee. The action, unfortunately, does nothing to dissuade their curious looks.

“Now I see how Katrina’s lies were found out.” Domenic laughs, before taking another bite of his breakfast. I follow his lead digging into the delicious French toast, the maple syrup has just the right sweetness to compliment it.

“Incoming,” Kali announces, cringing. Her gaze is cast over my shoulder. I glance behind me, rolling my eyes at Katrina’s approaching form. Her heels clomp angrily against the floor, and she’s flanked by what must be two of her cronies.

“If it isn’t Olivia, the boyfriend stealing bitch. I caught your little show, by the way. How very desperate of you,” she seethes, throwing the insult across the room to me, ensuring as many people as possible are able to hear her outburst.

“Just wanted to introduce you to Stacia and Veronica. They’ll be helping me make your life a living hell.” She gestures to the two sneering women on either side of her, one with long black hair, and the other with blonde hair almost the same shade as Katrina’s. She attempts to tower over me from my seated position, arms crossed to intimidate me.

I drop my fork, annoyed at the fact that I need to give this girl any of my attention to begin with.

“Look, I tried to be nice to you. I accepted that you may have some sort of overarching issue that enables your compulsive lying and manipulative behavior. However, if you would like to continue this manner, I will be forced to drop the kid gloves with you. I suggest you walk away now.” I purse my lips, turning in my chair to face her. My knees nearly touch her with how close she stands to me as I swivel around.

“Listen here, bitch,” she starts, leaning forward. I stand, making her take a step back. I look down on her, my height reaching a few inches above her, even with us both in heels.

“No, you listen here, you have no idea who you are fucking with.” Vitriol leaks from my words as I glare down at her. “You lied, and you got caught. It’s fucked up that you are trying to use someone else to bolster your own personal image. Adrian is not your boyfriend; he never was your boyfriend.” My tone is demeaning, as though I’m scolding a toddler. Explaining in detail how their behavior is inappropriate. At this point, it feels like I may just be speaking to an infant.

“Admit the truth and move on, or don’t. I honestly couldn’t care less at this point. Just get the fuck out of my face,” I seethe. My eyes narrow as I take them in, and they take a collective step back as my anger grows palpable around us.
