“How did you do that?” I ask in astonishment, eyes wide and dreamy still from the lingering effects of his powers. He meets my gaze, holding them there for a moment, before looking back down, sliding my shoe back onto my foot.

His eyebrows lift in surprise and he holds a hand out for me to take. I gladly accept, taking comfort in his warm touch once more as I place my hand in his. I’m almost disappointed that he could heal me so simply since it means he would have no reason to carry me now.

“You mean, you don’t know who I am?” Genuine surprise is in his tone, not full of himself in the least.

Annoyance pricks at me. Why did he need to be so cute? The lack of cockiness in his tone makes me want to wrap my arms around him, snuggling into his hard-toned chest once more. I frown at this thought, not wanting to let him have that power over me.

“Sorry, I don’t know every hot guy’s name here yet,” I bite out, a little colder than he deserved. Despite my tone, his lips quirk up in a polite grin, attempting to hide his amusement. I narrow my eyes in suspicion at his reaction, having no idea why he would smile when I’m trying to create some distance between us.

Seeing my confusion, he takes pity on me. “So, you think I’m hot?” A small chuckle escapes from his lips before he quickly clamps them shut. Short breaths of amusement still escape through his closed lips and he attempts to school his features in vain.

Pouting, I cross my arms, my brows furrowing. Apparently, he thinks my attempt at being cold and indifferent towards him is cute? He’s not supposed to think it’s cute. I guess I did slip up by admitting that I find him attractive. Apparently, he thinks my reactions now are also cute since he barely contains his next laugh.

“You know you’re hot.” Rolling my eyes at the obvious statement, I attempt to get back to the point. We make our way back over to the aisle where I almost died. His hand rests on my lower back as he leads us there and he glances down at me, eyes still twinkling with amusement.

“Anyway. Are you going to tell me who you are?” I portray a false tone of indignation, in a feeble attempt to get him to stop looking at me like that.

It makes me want to see what those plush lips taste like for myself.

“I’m not sure I want to tell you.” He grins mischievously, crouching to pick up the books. He pulls them away when I attempt to reach for them. “I’m kind of liking being a mysterious stranger for once.”

I huff in annoyance as I try in vain to surprise him, snatching at the basket while he speaks. A thank you and goodbye poised on my lips.

“Nope, you aren’t getting these until you tell me a bit about yourself,” he teases, moving the basket of books out of my reach and backing away to avoid any further attempts.

“Hmm ... Let’s see.” He hums, searching through the books until he finds the one I had my nose in when he startled me. Blushing at the memory of who exactly I had been so immersed in reading about.

“The Gods and Their Powers,” he reads the title aloud, looking at me curiously.

“You won’t be able to find out your other parent yet. All this book gives are descriptions of the gods and their powers. You won’t find any records of their children there.” Concern warms his honey-brown eyes, and his brows crease.

This man is dangerous. His warm, sincere gaze makes me want to spill all of my secrets. Lay my soul bare before him. I merely shrug, playing it off as though that was the reason. I know I won’t be able to lie to this man.

“Why did you pick out all these books on the first day of classes?” he asks curiously, making his way towards the study area. Still holding my books hostage. Having left me no choice, I follow after him towards a large wooden desk.

“Or did you just want to flirt with the hot librarian?” A smile so infectious crosses his face, I can’t help but mirror it. It takes a moment before his words click. He walks behind the desk, taking a seat in the oversized leather rolling chair behind it.

“You’re a librarian?” I ask incredulously. My eyes widen, and my lips part in shock. He sits up a bit straighter, puffing out his chest in pride at the implied compliment.

“I mean, it’s not that I don’t believe you. You just really don’t look like a librarian,” I explain, my eyes drinking him in. Running down his body, I get stuck on that artfully tousled hair.

“I’m going to take that as a compliment.” He chuckles, eyes darkening slightly, roaming my body and drinking me in the same fashion.

“Are you going to tell me your name?” There’s a husky note to his tone. He scans the books into the system.

“Not until you tell me yours.” I prop a hand on my hip, triumph ringing confidently in my tone. Finally able to get my answer.

“I guess you don’t want these books then.” His tone matches mine. He slides the books into a paper bag. Holding them at his side still. My face falls, and I realize he has me since I need the books. I sigh, rolling my eyes.

“Olivia Rothchild.”

His eyes light up, a beaming smile spreading across his face as he types my name into his computer. Shaking my head, I find my lips tilting upwards in an unbidden smile, it’s impossible to even pretend to be angry with him.

“By the way, it is actually your fault that this happened in the first place. If you hadn’t startled me, I never would’ve dropped those books,” I choose to inform him, and he glances up from the computer. Needing to win on at least one point against him. His smile grows even broader, eyes meeting mine.

“Well then, let me make it up to you,” he says smoothly, as though he was just waiting for the opportunity. “Let me take you out.” His dazzling smile is irresistible. I already know I can’t say no to this man. Although, I could make it a bit more challenging.

“Sorry, I can’t date a man that won’t tell me his name.” Hiding my smirk, I make my tone disappointed, and shrug my shoulders.
