“Arms up, dear.” She taps me with her pencil. I raise my arms just in time as her tape comes around my chest.

“First day?” She smiles up at me, taking in my hesitant expression.

“Is it that obvious?” I chuckle, her tape flies away from my chest, moving on. “I’m Olivia, by the way,” I state awkwardly, unsure if she will care given her rush to get my measurements.

“Oh, I’m sorry, Olivia. I’m Cora.” She smiles kindly, taking a moment from writing. “I apologize if I came off curt earlier, I just need to get started on this right away since classes start tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow?” My voice cracks as I stare at her, eyes wide in disbelief.

“Yes, dear. Oh, this must all be quite a shock.” She frowns, her eyes sympathetic, before flying back to her clipboard. “I must get to work on this. Take a look around the shop, and I’ll find you when I’m done.” She gives me a small smile before fabrics start flying about the room. I duck out of the door in a daze, the entire interaction very strange, not to mention the objects sailing through the room.

I go back to perusing the clothes around the store, going to the dresses this time. Cora stocks a good number of cocktail dresses and gowns. My eyes snag on a tight red skirt and matching crop top set. I pick it up, admiring the top’s intricate details and cut.

“That would look great on you.” A soft voice comes from behind me. A cute redhead stands behind me, her hair curly and glasses perched on her pert nose. She gives me a small smile, awkwardly shuffling from one foot to the other. I smile back, bringing my finger to my lips as a thought comes to my head. I motion to her to wait before popping back around to the rack and pulling out a gorgeous cobalt blue satin cocktail dress.

“This would look amazing on you,” I exclaim, holding it out to her excitedly.

“Oh no, there’s no way I could pull that off.” Shaking her head, she looks down at her shoes but hesitantly takes the dress. She looks at me questioningly, holding it up to herself and looks towards the mirror.

“Yes, you definitely can. You should try it on.” I smile encouragingly, moving over to her. She looks up, beaming at me and walks towards the dressing room, a bounce in her step that wasn’t there before.

“You really shouldn’t lie to her. You shouldn’t even be seen talking to her,” another voice says behind me. I turn to a blonde girl who watches me with her brow quirked. She cocks her hand on her hip, giving me an appraising once over. Her smile grows wide, as though she’s trying to help me out.

“Why’s that?” I ask, arching an eyebrow, appraising her in the same way. Her long blonde hair is blown out and her makeup is perfect, and her ripped boyfriend jeans and pink crop top are clearly designer.

“You’re new. You want to be seen with the right people. She isn’t one of those people,” She states plainly, flipping her long hair over one shoulder.

“Oh, and you are?” I keep my features schooled, not giving anything away until I can get a better read on her.

She lets out a small giggle, waving at me as though I just told the funniest joke she ever heard. “Of course. You must be really new if you don’t know who I am. Katrina Beauchamp,” she introduces, sticking out her hand daintily.

I gently clasp it, unsure what on earth she’s expecting me to do with such a strange gesture. My reaction must be correct, as she doesn’t react. “I’m Olivia Rothchild.”

“That’s such a cute name. Oh, you should definitely hang out with my girls and me.” She squeals in delight, taking me by surprise. “Sorry about my introduction. I just heard some girl was all over my boyfriend in the promenade earlier.”

I expel a breath of relief, giving her the benefit of the doubt. “No explanation is needed. I would definitely be a little bitchy if I heard some girl was all over my boyfriend.”

“I knew you’d understand.” She takes my elbow, leading me over to another rack of clothes. “You’ll definitely fit in here. It’s a bit of a change from the mortal world, but you’ll adapt no problem.” She smiles before leafing through the clothes.

“It’s been quite the shock, that’s for sure.” I join her in sorting through the clothes on the rack. Still feeling numb from the wild influx of information being thrown at me.

“Trust me, I’ll introduce you to everyone you need to know. You should definitely try that one.” She points to the outfit in my hands. She pulls a pink flowy dress from the rack. “Meet you back here.” She throws it over her shoulder before skipping to the changing rooms.

Taking the last empty one, I make my way over, pulling the curtain closed behind me. I slip out of the sundress, taking the chain off of my bikini. I slip on the crop top, the top plunges to almost the bottom of the top, and the form-fitting high-waisted skirt hugs my curves.

I pull the curtain open to the red-haired girl standing there, looking uncomfortable in the satin dress. She frowns at her reflection in the mirror, despite how incredible she looks in it. The dress hugging her curves perfectly, the top sitting around her shoulders.

“You look amazing,” I exclaim while walking over to her.

“No, I don’t. You look incredible. This doesn’t fit me.” She looks down, a blush creeping into her cheeks. I adjust her dress in a few places, putting it into place how it was meant to sit.

“See, you look amazing, and it highlights your hair perfectly.”

“She’s right. It looks great on you. Olivia, you have a great eye.” Katrina smiles as she walks out of her own change room, her blush-colored dress flowing around her. “No need to say it. I know I look great too.” She twirls in front of the mirror, striking a pose over to us. We all laugh and strike poses in our own dresses.

“What’s your name, hun?” I look over to my new red-haired friend.

“I’m Kaliope. You can call me Kali for short, though.”
