He rolls his hips and I whimper into his mouth, glad for the barrier to keep my sounds from escaping. My body and my brain war with one another, my body craving more despite just being completely sated, while my brain is telling me to get the hell out of here before someone comes looking for us.

“I can’t get enough of you,” Denver groans against my lips, and judging by the way his jaw stiffens, I can tell he hates admitting that.

“You’re not too bad yourself,” I whisper, lowering my shield one time before I send it snapping back up. He eases back from me as a throaty chuckle slips from his lips.

“You can say what you want now, but those cries told me all I need to know, Hart,” he says, letting go of my chin and gripping the base of his dick. He holds the condom as he pulls out of me and I nearly whimper in protest at the loss.

“Well that doesn’t matter because that’s the last time we’re having sex,” I declare, straightening my shirt and skirt before I turn to face him.

“I give it a week before you’re begging for more, sunshine,” he scoffs with a snort of amusement.

“Doubtful.” I hold his gaze, hoping he doesn’t see the wavering resolve there, as I smooth out my hair. Fuck, I really didn’t think this through. I just hope I’ll be able to get to my room fast enough to freshen up before any of the shifters can scent the sex clinging to my skin.

“Sure, Hart. You keep telling yourself that.” He laughs, shaking his head in disbelief. “Just for that, when you do eventually come to me, I’m going to make you beg on your hands and knees for me to take you. But first you’ll have to make it up to me and show me just what that mouth of yours can do on my dick.”

“Keep dreaming, douchebag,” I grind out, grasping on to that spark of anger rather than the image of my lips bobbing on his thick length, teasing him before he takes me from behind. I need to get out of here. Now.

“Oh I’ll do more than—” Denver says as he reaches for me but his words cut off abruptly as I swing the brass door knob open. Sunlight streams through the opening, and cool air sweeps into the sweltering closet.

Denver mutters a curse beneath his breath, immediately turning around to put his dick away while I slip away. Lucky for him I close the door behind me before rushing down the hallway, not giving him an opportunity to catch up with me.

Nope, because if he does, that last shred of willpower might just slip away and I’ll be the one pulling him back in there.

Chapter Six

Aria

“Whatthehellisgoing on with you?” Harper asks, her brow lifted as she eyes me suspiciously from her place perched on my bed. “You’ve been acting strange ever since that run-in with Denver.”

“Nothing’s going on.” I sigh as I finish the final touches on my winged liner. Thankfully dinner is one of the few times that we don’t have to be in uniform, so I took the opportunity to go back to my room as soon as I got my key to shower and change.

Luckily it was only Carter and Harper waiting for me in the foyer. They, of course, weren’t happy at being left alone together, but I was grateful that Greyson wasn’t there to scent exactly what I’d done. No other shifter would have known who exactly I hooked up with if we weren’t standing next to each other, but even still, I kept a wide berth until I could wash off his scent.

I never should’ve given in to the undeniable lust that seems to fog over my mind whenever I’m trapped in a small space with Denver lately, but honestly I don’t regret it. Despite how infuriating he is, that was exactly what I needed and I’d be lying if I said he didn’t know precisely how to work my body.

Great, now I want to skip dinner and find Prince for round two. That won’t happen though, not after I vowed that would be the last time. Despite how enticing the picture he’d painted of me begging for him the next time, there’s no way I’ll be doing that, not with him at least.

“Are you listening to me?” Harper asks, concern tingeing her high-pitched tone.

My gaze darts back to her and then around the room, searching for some sort of threat. Surely someone has to be attacking her in order to use a tone like that. The room is cozy thankfully, the interior painted drywall rather than the hard stone used in the main entrance of the academy. I was able to settle in a bit and hung a few personal items on the wall before Harper had barged in this evening.

“Of course I am,” I grind out, covering my ears even though the damage has already been done. “You sound like Glenda.”

“Don’t compare me to her,” Harper screeches, her lips pursing as she realizes just how loud she’s being. “That’s just plain hurtful, Aria.”

I shove my makeup back in my bag and stride over to where my best friend is perched on my bed. Despite her normally tough exterior, she seems deflated by my comment.

“I’m sorry, Harpy,” I say, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.

The nickname might seem mean to some, but she’s always seemed drawn to the half-bird half-human creatures in mythology class, so it was something just used between the two of us. If anyone else dared to call her it I have no doubt she would claw out their eyes with her blood-red talon-shaped nails, and I would help.

“You know you’re nothing like that … Glenda,” I pull myself short from calling her a bitch, unsure of whether or not she has spies here yet. “She just said the same thing to me today, that’s all.”

“And that’s why I’m worried,” Harper exclaims, leaning into the half hug as she turns to face me. “It’s not like you to zone out like this. Honestly, you’ve been acting like something has been on your mind since your graduation party.”

I stiffen at the mention of my party, not having realized I’d been showing my jumbled emotions so openly.

“It’s nothing,” I say again, and attempt to relax in order to ease some of her suspicions. “Seriously.”
