“Cedric, you okay?” Finley whispers from the other couch.

I peek an eye open and glance in her direction . . . again my heart rips wide at the sight of Mara-Lee lying there as well. Her gaze on Arwen and me. Next to where they are, Ainslee’s also sitting in the comfy chair rocking Dom in her arms.

“Yeah, I’m good,” I mutter and glance back down at Arwen. At the hospital, they made the girls stay overnight for observation, and the staff informed me they didn’t appreciate me up and leaving the way I did.

I didn’t care. I wasn’t not going to go find my woman.

She needed me, and I could be broken in half and still go look for her.

At Arwen’s plea, I did allow them to check me over, make sure I was good. Which I was. Well mostly. My body aches from the whiplash, and the doc said I had a concussion.

When we left the hospital, Finley and Ainslee promised to look after us. She even contacted Dragon and Gadget’s ol’ lady and asked her to come out. She’s done this twice now, once yesterday and again a bit ago.

“What movie do you guys want to watch?” I ask quietly, hoping to get their minds off shit.

“King Author?” Ainslee suggests catching on to me changing the subject.

“The one with Charlie Hunnam in it?” Mara-Lee murmurs, her voice slightly raspy.

“Yeah, I keep seeing it on Netflix, it looks good.” Ainslee shrugs.

“Then let’s watch it,” Finley agrees, jerking her chin to the TV. “Put it on, Cedric.”

Nodding, I go about doing so when someone knocks at the front doors. The past two days, since getting back to the Fort, Halton and Dalton have been crashing here, giving us a chance to rest. Whoever it is, they’ll handle it.

There’s a loud commotion that jerks Arwen awake with a small scream. I stay seated, keeping her calm when her brothers come into view.

“It’s okay, cuore mio,” I murmur soothingly and stroke my hand through her hair. I glance back at the brothers making their way toward us and demand, “What are you all doing here?”

“Came to see our sister,” Danti states sternly, taking in the room and glancing between Finley and myself. “Situation is handled. I’m not head of the family.”

Arwen jerks slightly and whimpers.

The sound catches the brothers’ attention, and Benito moves in first. His eyes narrow in on Arwen. “What happened to our little sister?” he demands, moving even closer until he’s kneeling in front of me, his gaze on Arwen as he goes on to whisper, “I’m so sorry, Weenie, I couldn’t protect you the way I wanted. I didn’t know they were doing everything they were to you. Not until last night. Please forgive me for not trying harder.”

“Someone mind telling me what the fuck happened here,” Danti snaps, scanning over all of us.

“Stellina,” Amer calls, causing my eyes to widen because he’s not looking at Arwen. He’s looking down at the woman lying in Finley’s lap.

Mara-Lee.

And he looks as if he’s seen a ghost.

Fuck.

Mara-Lee doesn’t say anything. She simply looks in Amer’s direction, eyes glistening with tears.

“If someone doesn’t start talking, I will lose my fuckin’ mind,” Danti yells, throwing his hands in the air.

“Shh,” Ainslee hisses, rocking Dom, who stirs in her arms. “Sit down, and we’ll tell you. But for the love of God, you wake our son up, and you’ll get your ass kicked by me.”

Danti shoots her a glare but takes a seat close to where I am, his eyes going from Arwen to Mara-Lee.

We give them a run down and what’s happened the past several days. Finley explains she’s dealt with Eliya and sent her body back to her father as a message to never mess with them.

A few hours later, the three brothers kiss their sister, telling her they’ll be back the next day.

I scoop Arwen up and carry her to our room. I need time with my woman alone, away from everyone else. Laying her down, I cradle her to me, and neither of us says a word, both content to be in each other’s embrace.
