We greeted each other.

“I haven’t forgotten your help,” I told him.

“Oh, yes, you still owe me a favor,” Delco said. He sounded pleased with that. “I’ll let you know when you can repay it.”

I didn’t like the sound of that.

Next, the Boldridge alpha and his betas arrived. He barely paid me any attention as he took his chair in the center of the room, and his betas stood behind him.

The alphas of Wildtail and Warhide strolled in like they owned the place. They glared at each other and the tension escalated tenfold. With the war they were fighting against each other, it would be a miracle if they didn’t attack each other in here.

Almost half an hour late, the Whitecrest alpha arrived. Dressed in all white, Nortrix didn’t even look at me as he stepped under the tent and took his chair. His betas, though, had their hands on the hilt of daggers strapped to their belts.

I held back a scoff. As if wolves fought with weapons.

The large tent felt tight and charged with six alphas and twelve betas.

“So,” Delco started once we were all seated. “What is this meeting for?”

I faced each one of them for two seconds, before saying, “Yesterday, I was attacked by Whitecrest wolves.” The other wolves seemed surprised, but Nortrix didn’t even flinch. “I killed eight of the twelve wolves who attacked me and sent their bodies back to you. I believe you received them?”

Nortrix finally looked at me. “I’m just upset they didn’t finish you off as I ordered.”

I sucked in a sharp breath. “So you did order It.” I wasn’t expecting him to admit it. Moreover, I had gotten a full confession in front of the other alphas.

“I punished the other four who came back.” Nortrix leaned forward on his chair. “Next time, they won’t fail.”

I gripped the arms of my chair. “Why do you want to kill me?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

He was getting on my nerves. “Is it because of Conri? What did he promise you?”

“Conri.” Nortrix laughed as if I had told a joke. “He was an errand boy and he couldn't even get that right.”

Wait, what? Conri was an errand boy? What did that mean? “Who was Conri working with? What did he want with my pack?”

“Listen, boy—”

I slapped the chair’s arm and it rattled underneath me. “I’m not aboy. I might be young, younger than all of you, but I will not be treated like a child. You will respect me and—”

A growl started from my right and in two seconds, the Wildtail and the Warhide alphas were on the floor, mauling at each other. Their betas didn’t even try to separate them—they joined the fray.

Oh, shit.

I tried getting to them, prying them apart. Dom, Vallin, Delco, and his betas helped me.

But Nortrix snickered. As I pulled one alpha back and Delco pulled another, I glanced at Nortrix. He walked toward me, put his hand on my shoulder. “We’re not done, boy.” He grazed his long nails over my upper arm, drawing blood.

I snarled at him and I would have grabbed his neck and demanded an explanation, if I wasn’t busy holding another wolf.

He wiped a finger at the scratch and smiled at me. Then he walked out of the tent with his betas.

What the hell?

It took us a few minutes to fully separate the Wildtail and the Warhide packs—they left shortly after, yelling bloody murder at each other—and by then Nortrix was far gone.

This meeting had solved nothing.
