A sob rose in my throat. “And you thought I was dead.” Dear moon, if it had been the opposite. If I had thought he was dead … I didn’t know what I would have done. I would have died with him.

“That was actually the second time.” His lips turned upside down. “I don’t recommend it.” I punched him in the shoulder. “Ouch. I’m serious! Please, don’t scare me again. I can’t take it.”

I knew what he meant.

And I wanted him to know that.

Raika crawled on my lap, pushing her ass right into my thighs, and wrapped her legs around my waist. She cupped my face and leaned into me. A growl escaped my lips as I wound my arms around her back and met her halfway.

Dear moon, I still couldn’t believe she was here. She was alive and with me, with her memories back, and her love for me too.

Holding on to her, I moved and took her down. She lay on the hard floor and for a moment, I looked at her. Her long, wavy black hair formed a halo around her, and her bright blue eyes shone like the stars. She bit down on her lower lip, reaching for me. Damn, she was gorgeous. I pressed my body to hers. I didn’t even care where we were, who might see us. I just needed her, and I needed her now.

I kissed her again and moved my hips. Raika gasped. She wound her legs around my waist, tugging her feet on my ass. I smiled against her lips, glad to see she wanted this as much as I did.

I broke the kiss and reached for my chest. These clothes needed to come off right now.

The castle shook and Raika stiffened. “What was that?”

I pushed up on my arms and looked down at her. “It’s probably Aurora.”

“Who?”

“Drake and Thea’s seven-year-old daughter. She’s a half-vampire, half-witch, and powerful. She has been having night terrors, and each time she does, she sends ripples of magic through the castle.”

She frowned. “Poor thing.”

“Yeah, but—” I snapped my head to the side. Rapid footsteps crossed a nearby hallway. “Something is wrong.” I shot up, took Raika’s hand in mine, and helped her up. She landed in my arms. I leaned into her and brushed my lips on her. “We’ll continue this later.”

Pink spread over her cheeks. “I’m counting on that.”

I growled and kissed her one more time. Dear moon, I loved when she said that. Still holding her hand, I guided us through the castle’s hallways. Raika looked around as much as she could, taking the splendor of the place in. We arrived at a side corridor, where a handful of vampires gathered around.

Prince Cain and Lyra saw us coming and turned to us.

“Shane,” Cain said.

“What is going on?”

“It’s Dot,” he said. “She got loose when we were taking her down to the dungeons, and she spelled some of our own to attack each other.”

“What? Where’s she now?” I asked, my voice tight.

“Queen Thea and Almae sedated her,” Lyra said. “She’s in her cell, inside a witch’s circle. Even so, Thea plans on keeping her sedated.”

I frowned. “But if she’s sedated, she can’t break my curse.”

“It won’t be much.” Thea walked out of a door to our left. “It’s enough so she can’t use her magic against us.”

“She’ll need her magic to break my curse.”

Thea nodded. “Yes, and when that happens, we’ll prepare a safe space and take all the necessary precautions.”

My grip on Raika’s hand tightened. This didn’t sit well with me. “Is it safe to go down there now?”
