Minsi nodded.

“Really?” Raika’s eyes widened a little. “I … haven’t been behind the house yet, but I would like to see this rosebush.”

“Whenever you want. It’s yours.” I took the rose from her and tucked it behind her ear.

She lifted her head to me again. “Someone is mushier than normal.”

I shrugged. “Life has been a bitch, but right now, I’m happy.”

“I’m happy too.”

I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. Every time I saw her, every time I touched her, every time I thought of her, lust was like the sun after a storm—always there. If we weren’t in public, I would have backed her to the nearest wall and ravished her until she was screaming my name.

My pants suddenly became tight.

Thankfully by then, Minsi’s attention was back to her tablet.

SUVs from the castle drove into town and our guests arrived: Lord Drake, Queen Thea, Aurora, Almae, Prince Cain, Prince Aston, Prince Dorian, Elisa, and Zadkiel. Lyra had been invited too, but she had left earlier with a dozen vampires to help the goblins.

Some wolves from the pack stiffened, wary of the newcomers. Though this was their land, Drake had asked everyone to stay out of the village to give us privacy, and to not spook anyone who might not like other supernaturals.

But as the evening progressed, a duo of wolves played ballads on their guitar and a small set of drums, people danced and drank together, and everyone seemed comfortable.

I sat on the bench close to the bonfire, Raika snuggled under my arm, and a stick with a s’more in one hand. Minsi sat on the ground, her back against Raika’s leg, licking her melting s’more. Across the bonfire, Tyren laughed with Hugh, while stealing glances at a clueless Lucille.

Around us, all of our friends and family had a great time.

I looked up, at the night sky and the full moon shining bright, and inhaled deeply. There wasn’t one ounce of the Shadow Wolf left in me. I was fine.

I tucked Raika closer.

Right now, I was more than fine.

“Excuse us.” I pushed Minsi away from Raika’s legs and tugged Raika to stand with me. Holding her hand, I guided her a few feet to the side, then I turned her to me, put my hands on her back, and started swaying side to side.

Her smile was wide and contagious and it brightened her beautiful face. Dear moon, this gorgeous woman was perfect inside and out and she was mine.

I pulled her closer to me, until her chest was glued to mine, and despite the urge to have her rub her body on mine, I had to keep things PG while out here.

So I just settled for a peck on her lips. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” She cocked her head. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

I chuckled. “I’m okay. I’m great. I’m just trying to appreciate the good things I have.” I smoothed my hand up and down her back. “I lost you twice before. That will never happen again, but while you’re here with me, I want to enjoy every single second.”

Her smile turned lopsided. “Continue saying things like that and we might need to leave the party early.”

I whispered in her ear, “I wouldn’t be opposed to that.”

Others joined us on our improvised dance floor—Killian and Lavinia, Drake and Thea, Eliza and Zad. At some point, Tyren asked Lucille and she agreed to dance with him! And Hamill took Rue for a quick spin and later Dom did the same with Vianna.

Slowly, the hours passed.

Vianna and Rue left with the kids. Drake and Thea took Aurora to bed too, and most of his vampires left with him. Raika also took Minsi to our house and tucked her in. Tyren and Hugh went with her. They promised to watch over Minsi until Raika and I were back.

I started organizing things with Dom, Lucille, and Hamill, but when Raika came back, I couldn’t help but take her dancing again. Soon, the musicians left, along with the rest of the pack.

It was only Raika and me, the dying bonfire, and the immense night sky.
